The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered

I want to say yes, but I have to not recommend this one. I really love the Alliance Alive, this art style, the saga combat. Legend of Legacy was a very pretty game when it released, and while I think the remake does justice to the visuals, that's about the end of the changes from the original. LoL has a very thin story, still has systems that are not entirely transparent with how they function, and characters that are interchangeable with little consequence. With remakes like Star Ocean 2 and Persona 3, this feels more like a tweaked port than a remaster. I'm being harsh but that's not to say it's all bad. If you do want a challenging rpg, and you enjoy the saga style of progression, then this is certainly a choice. The areas have a lot of variation, the exploration can be fun with finding all the little secrets. Games rarely punish you nowadays for losing, but that's not the case here. The game has a risk and reward balance for fights- Your hp is healed to full every fight, but dying will reduce your max hp until you can rest. Before you pick this game up you have to understand what it is. I think this game was originally intended to be played by fans of the SaGa series on buses and trains on their way to work or school. It's light on story, heavy on exploration, geared towards short gameplay sessions. If you don't have a steam deck and are playing on your computer at home, then this is a game for SaGa fans while they are catching up on news and podcasts on their second monitor. I absolutely loved my time with this game and have zero complaints. I received it as a gift but I got a full $50 priced game's worth of fun out of it. It's not for everyone, no doubt, it's a very niche game. But in a world full of triple A games trying to appeal to as many people as possible, it's refreshing to play a game that is made for one very specific audience, hardcore JRPG fans who don't need story to be interested in a game that need something light but not shallow to play for a few hours here and there. If that's you then you'll have a great time, if not then you're gonna be miserable!

A terrible game where all you really do is open up the map while killing monsters with a boring combat system.

I feel like the story was really lacking and felt non-existent compared to The Alliance Alive HD Remastered game which prevented me from enjoying this. You just open up a map and go explore to attack enemies while there isn't really any story plot going on.

Very faithful to the handheld original version.
