✦ AI summary

The Solus Project is an exploration-focused survival adventure that effectively creates atmosphere and tension through environmental design, mysterious storytelling, and an eerie sense of isolation on an alien world, with solid puzzle-solving and genuinely creepy moments that keep players engaged. However, players consistently criticize the clunky inventory and crafting systems, outdated graphics, obtuse puzzle design with little feedback, and frustrating secret-hunting that relies on trial-and-error rather than intuitive exploration.

The Solus Project is a first-person science-fiction adventure that places exploration, isolation, and environmental survival at the center of its experience. Developed by Hourences and Grip Games and published by Teotl Studios, the game presents a structured single-player journey rather than an endlessly open survival sandbox. Its strongest quality is the way it makes an alien planet feel genuinely unfamiliar and dangerous, using weather, temperature, underground ruins, environmental puzzles, and limited resources to maintain tension without depending on constant combat. The story begins after Earth has been destroyed, leaving the remnants of humanity aboard a small fleet near Pluto. The player is part of a mission sent to investigate Gliese-6143-C as a possible new home, but the expedition ends disastrously when the spacecraft is destroyed during its approach. With the other crew members dead, communication lost, and equipment scattered across the planet, the protagonist becomes humanity's isolated hope. Finding a method of contacting the fleet becomes the immediate objective, but exploration gradually exposes evidence that this supposedly empty world once supported an intelligen…

6/10 - not for VR Played with Quest 3 w/ VD streamer (direct VD Launch crashes, Launch SteamVR in VD works) While graphics are great in VR, playing on 'Tracked controls' are just too cumbersome. 'to pick up, dropping, use, mixing items' with quest controller is a frustration even after you get whats what. And with the 'fire torch' held in weird angle (for tracked controller), your wrist will strain, hurt, playing. So, sadly even tho it does work in VR, just stick playing it in flat screen. even using VR with a 'game-pad', the 'VR head point cursor' is uncomfortable. Still worth at sale, 'in Flat Screen', if you love exploring, searching every nooks and crannies.

The game doesn’t look very good, and it feels overcomplicated in the wrong places. The story is slightly intriguing, but it unfolds through a lot of notes, and you have to wander through outdated-looking environments to find them. The inventory management feels clunky, and there aren’t many crafting options. The game isn’t pretty enough to recommend for its visuals, it isn’t sci-fi enough to recommend to sci-fi fans, and it isn’t complex enough to recommend to survival enthusiasts. I don’t know who I could recommend it to.

Despite looking like a simple exploration survival game, The Solus Project had me looking over my shoulder, and making me feel like something was constantly watching me. There was always a chill running up my spine with every corner I took, and filling my mind with dread every time I stared down into the caves below. Always unsure whether something wanted to hurt me, help me, or just... stare back. Got puzzles? Yes. A sprinkle of Terror? No doubt. Good story? Absolutely. Music and sound affects to scare the living daylight out of you? Of course...

it's.. fine. idk. it's cool, it's spooky, but it kinda feels like they lost the plot a little half way through. there's aliens, but now the skeletons are looking at you and they're like haunted or some ♥♥♥♥ idk. unless you have a guide or are willing to bash your head into a brick wall for a few dozen hours you're not gonna find all of the secrets, because some of them are hidden in obvious places or, like, a place with a land mark or something, but a lot are hidden in just random nooks and crannys and that's not interesting. also the puzzles are completely arbitrary, which is to say that there is sometimes zero indication as to what a button will do. you just have to press every button you find and hope it gets you where you need to be. also it's really easy to go through the map geometry, especially with the semi-poorly implemented teleporter. and the ending just kind of sucked. it wasn't satisfying, and didn't really make me feel much of anything. the art style is nice though. in conclusion, spooky, poor puzzles, a bit buggy, somewhat confusing plot.
