The single-console perspective (the store blurb puts it perfectly: “through the eyes of a single console”) turns every keystroke into a detective beat. Name another free-to-play that fuses puzzle-box interfaces with genuine narrative stakes—right now The Vault sits alone in that space. Of course, there seems to be an endless supply of lore and world building to dig into at any given time. My favorite flourish is the faux-DOS shader: every new directory you crack flickers like someone slipped a secret reel into the projector. Color’s absence is deliberate too—the stark palette makes every highlighted clue feel like a flare in the dark, perfect for late-night sleuthing. Main gripe? I want Steam achievements so I can catalog the rabbit holes the community keeps unearthing in the tight search-term system. Timelines and time-travel remain an integral part of sci-fi storytelling, and there is plenty of that here! And alternating timestamps become puzzles in themselves, forcing you to decode not just text but the very moment it appears. "The Vault" is a text adventure that was published in 2024, showing an incredible inability from the developer to have their finger on the pulse here... graphics cards for PCs became mainstream in the 1980s. Text adventures are an old, obsolete game format... and this offered absolutely nothing of value in terms of trying to resurrect that corpse. What do you do in the game? This is a godawfully lame desktop simulator. You navigate login pages, search pages, and informational pages, uncovering hidden information by gaining access to different clearance levels. The graphics aren't existent, just text, no graphics. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schem…

This is not a game, simple as. Furthermore to get more out of this "game" you need to be apart of the discord server to get any use of it. Other than that it doesn't offer anything as a stand-alone game.
