About Traps N' Gemstones

A "Metroidvania"-style platform adventure, with inspiration going all the way back to SNES and 8-bit classics.

Traps n' Gemstones is a modern take on exploration-based, backtracking platformers, loaded with hidden chambers to uncover, artifacts to find, weapons to use and items to combine.

\

THE PLOT\

Precious relics have suddenly started to disappear from a well-hid pyramid that has been guarded by Bedouins for generations, who claim to have spotted an unknown perpetrator.
As a freelance archaeologist and expert on ancient explorations, you've been secretly called in to Egypt to help them solve the mystery.

Arriving at the pyramid's entrance empty handed, your journey starts off by searching some well-known chambers for items and weapons to help you on your quest.
But as you get deeper into the pyramid, you begin to realize that this mystery will require more than just a whip, a sharp mind and a good amount of explosives to unravel.

\

CONTROLS\

Use a USB-joystick, or the following default KEYS:

RUN - Cursor Left / Right
JUMP - Cursor Up or ALT

Ok game except for one issue: you have to be a mindreader to guess where to go next. You have to place relics on pedestals to progress but the pedestals don't tell you which relic it needs. There are dots on the map that I think are supposed to tell you which relic you need, or not because while sometimes the dots go away after you place a relic, the number of dots is always greater than how many relics you have and often lead to spots you don't have a relic to. So that definitely needs some work. Also in one room right before getting the gun, the trap door switched its states and suddenly was open all the time and only closed when stepping on the button. Which meant I couldn't go back. So I had to die to respawn back at the top.

This game is very solid and very playable. Unfortunately, it seems to be lost to time...

the lack of any sign of an HP mechanic a quarter of the way in is a bad sign in my books. the controls arrent precise enough for a character who will only ever have 1hp.

I liked it, but I wish the mobile version still worked. I wish there wasn't an achievement for playing for 8 hours, kinda makes it annoying if I want to complete everything through playing the game (otherwise I just have to mull around doing nothing significant). The game is quite simple overall, and there's very little story. Still a pleasant experience but don't expect anything remarkable.

This is a chill platformer, not hard to pick up and play. It resembles the metroidvania genre, but mostly the game is about "doors" that requires "keys" to find. But there are some equipment that has to be there for some parts. I liked the puzzles, it has a bunch of mechanics, some of them are used in only special rooms, or only in one place. There are minor issues, like the collecting gems and coins (points). If you die, you lose them, and all collected stuff respawns, so to collect these become unimportant to me. You have to find all the keys though. And also, halfway throuh the game I realized what the dots were on the map, that was half helpful. :) All in all, this is a good little game.

Metroid style, but only vestigial combat and over minimal platformer challenge. So exploration/secret finding mainly, little platforming, and just enough fight for it to be there, but without real meaning to the game play. Not a way to rag on it but just honestly, Beginner Kids First Metroid. The only real challenge is in finding all the secrets. While there is only enough platforming and fight challenge to be introductory to the concepts, but not yet presenting meaningful challenge to the player in those aspects. Not bad, even good for what it is. But that caveat is key, for what it is. It is for game younger beginner gamers i'd say. It doesn't really offer, in full, what a seasoned gamer of metriod style games would expect. Almost makes you wonder if games could do whit some sort of age/Xp related challenge rating system. Cuties graphics alone do not signal a game for younger kids just arriving at this level of play in games. And there have been games over the years that really were designed for younger kids/beginner gamers, but don't make that clear up front to everyone. Anyway get it for your younger sibling, nephew, granddaughter or whatever younger kid/noob gamer you wann…
