Undusted: Letters from the Past

Undusted is a cleaning game that tells the story of a family through the objects they leave behind. As you clean items with sentimental value, you gradually uncover their history. It's a game about how families can fall apart and drift away because of unresolved grief. That said, I felt the narrative leans too heavily toward understanding the adults while showing less empathy for the children. Even so, the story resonated with me on a very personal level. As a cleaning game, I can't really compare Undusted to other games in the genre, but its core mechanics work well. Each cleaning tool has a distinct purpose, and anyone aiming for 100% completion will have to hunt down every last speck of dust—which can be a bit time-consuming. Has Undusted turned me into a huge fan of cleaning games? Definitely not. ...although maybe I should finally vacuum my apartment tomorrow... What truly sets the game apart, however, is how many everyday situations it portrays that feel instantly relatable. It often leaves you with an unresolved thought just as the cleaning begins, creating space to reflect on the characters' experiences—or perhaps even your own. Damn do Koreans know how to write a story.. Warning don't play this game if you feel sad or play it and cry your balls out who am I to tell you how to live your life. So where do I start with this game? I just finished this game after work and now it is 1 am but I have to write this review because this game is just that good in my opinion. I think this game is a solid argument for games as an art platform and as a way to tell a story or make you live a certain experience. I don't think it matters if you like cozy games or if you enjoy this style of games or not, this is a game that you should experience just to be able to understand how far this medium can go and what it can offer that other platforms of art like movies can't afford. I think this story is meant to be experienced this way for you to fully grasp the beauty of it and actually feel invested. Undusted is a fantastic, though short, narrative story told through dusty off old memories in the form of objects. Telling a beautiful but heartbreaking story of loss and mistakenly thinking you have forever to reconcile. As well as the fact that sometimes parents miscommunicate and children lash out. If I a nickel for everytime a short narrative story told through cleaning/fixing items relating to ones story made me cry.... I'd have 2 nickels but it's a bit odd it happened twice. Because this story did make me cry. I'm a mom. I find myself often wondering "Am I doing the right thing?", "Am I being too harsh?", "Where is the line between encouragement and being realistic?". Parenting is hard. Really hard. You don't always do the right thing and sometimes you might do something you can't take back. I'm scared all the time that I might someday do or say something that I can't take back. I do my best everyday to never find myself in that position. I strive to always do right by my kid. I think every parent does. But as this story illustrates... parents don't always know best. So the story tugs at heartstrings I feel, especially if you are a parent. But I know it could also do that…
