About Uriel's Chasm 2: את

✦ AI summary

Play as a girl tending a cosmic garden while battling interdimensional suitors in a genre-shifting bullet hell that morphs between Frogger, Space Invaders, and more, all backed by a punchy FM synth soundtrack. This Mega-PC rom hack blends allegorical storytelling, innovative graze-based mechanics, and reality-bending chaos as a digital glitch called Mayim threatens to unravel everything.

את is a fantasy "Mega-PC" rom hack. In את ("et") you play as a young girl who has been sent into another dimension as a sacrificial offering.

You have been showered with mercy and adopted as a daughter by a mysterious entity known as The Abstraction. You are charged with cultivating a garden paradise on a barren frame in the middle of space, for a mysterious suitor who is to come.

Lately you have been having strange prophetic dreams in which other dimensions have been sending anti-matter tributes and sacrifices, all in a effort to win your hand and share your paradise.

Also, a mysterious glitch in the very fabric of your reality called Mayim has started to show up. Reality bends as everything at the quantum level is digitized and rerouted to an eerie abandoned carpark in Nauseous Pines.
  • All the game styles!!, proto-bullethell boss rush is just the beginning as you are plunged into crazy game style combinations including configurations such as frogger, space invaders, california games surfing and fire fighting
  • Allegorical story that dramatically furthers the Nauseous Pines/Uriels chasm universe of Railslave games.
  • Innovative mechanics, graze fruit to fill your rainbow anti-matter launcher, travel closer to the action to raise the risk bar and spin the fruit machine.
  • Punchy full Yamaha FM OST made on synths close to the actual Mega PC and influenced by a wide variety of styles from Indian Bhangra to Technosoft's Thunderforce series.

Uriel's Chasm 2: את goes in my "Wtf did I just play?" category, and not in a good way ... despite the failure of the original, the devs still decided to proceed with a sequel that isn't any better than the first one. The nonsensical story, lack of goal or story is still there, as you are immediately thrown into a bullet-hell style game with a stats bar that shows boss HP and your HP as well as some fruits (?). I still don't know what's going on besides killing the enemy on top of the screen. From shooting an alien monster in space, to picking items in an apple field ... I'm still not sure what's going on. Some of the text and dialogue in the intro doesn't make any sense, and sounds like it was written by a 2nd grader. Walls of text between each gameplay makes the game feel more labour-intensive to read, too. You can't even skip the intro either after restarting, so you're trapped with those walls of text. The pixel visuals and audio music are decent, but that doesn't do any justice to how horrid my experience was playing. Don't bother touching Uriel's Chasm 2: את. I wouldn't suggest this game even to my enemies.

The multi-genre aspect seemed intriguing and innovative, as did the first few minutes of intro and gameplay. It's essentially a score-attack SCHMUP with minigames interlaced. Seems like something that would be on TempleOS - as in it has a religious theme and makes little sense. The controls and goal for each minigame are not explained or evident at times. Had the previous statement not been the case I think this could've been something interesting. Also, the store page claims full controller support but it did not work with a controller.
