Veritus

good game

This game is a sequel to Colorgrave's previous game Prodigal, it is highly recommended that you play it beforehand or you'll end up fairly confused. Much like it's predecessor, it is a 2D Zelda-like at its core. However Veritus is also a different enough game in comparison, a much more linear and narrative focused game. Combat is still simple, but faster and more aggressive. It also offers replayability through new playthroughs with handicaps, advantages and challenges for bonus unlockables. Story wise it's still full of character interactions, scattered pieces of lore and secrets. Just like in the developer's previous games, it will reward you for paying attention to details and putting pieces together. If you got invested in the story of Prodigal and the lore of Colorgrave's universe it's a game worth playing.

Veritas is a solid 2D action adventure game. If you liked playing the top down 2D Zelda games you'll enjoy this. The gameplay is similar except much faster pace. For those coming back for more after playing Prodigal. Know that this is much more about the action/combat and puzzle mapping. The movement puzzles are a range of straight forward to cryptic. As long as you remember skills and items. They have expanded the items you can collect this time around. A lot of items are completely optional and you can just complete the game with just the base items. Just know that if you're buying this game the devs have finished development for the game. They are only updating bug fixes that are causing problems. I wish they added some QOL updates before they did for example a list of the food recipes you've found. It is easy to skip through text boxes and miss information you may need such as how mini games work, recipes, etc. Story wise the game feels like it doesn't hold up as well as Prodigal. They focus much more on the gameplay. I'd recommend getting this on sale if you want to play more of this world. If you haven't play Prodigal play that one first for the story continuity.

Sólo hay mazmorras una detras de otra. La historia es un desastre, confusa y muy fragmentada. El juego anterior, Prodigal, era decente, pero este es un paso atras en todos los sentidos.

Veritus is a 6-8 hour Zelda-like that is technically a direct sequel to Prodigal. But, the list price is only $7 and that is because, as recently as the 2010s, it would have been sold as standalone post-game DLC (think: Prey: Mooncrash, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, etc). Context: Prodigal is one of the best Zelda-likes on Steam, alongside Pipistrello (2025) and Master Key (2024). You should only play Veritus if you have completed Prodigal. Veritus is... very weird, though I still had a good time with it. In Prodigal, the game begins with a very 'ordinary people in a small town' vibe, and only deep into the endgame do you get glimpses of demigods & immortals and this whole bizarre array of 'powers that be.' In Veritus, from the jump you are part of a crew of... beings... ('mortal' status unclear) who are invading a magical castle in another plane of existence maybe to try to slay an imprisoned god. The whole game has a very 'hallucination' quality to it, where everybody assumes you're totally in on the plan, and it's as if you, the player, are the only one in the dark, trying to put pieces together.
