it feels so wrong to play this good of a game for free. The graphics are really good for a pixel art style game, the combat is intuitive and fun (i played on controller), there is an easy mode for casual players, the game itself runs well, no lag spikes or anything, altho a saving system with different files would make this game perfect, overall a 9.5/10

As an experimental indie game for free, it has a unique twist in the story and gameplay mechanics.

I hope that one day they will translate it into Spanish.

Void of Lilly is a game that surprised me with how much it manages to fit into such a small experience. I play as Ann, who is trying to find her missing sister in a strange near future version of the world. The setting is built around Axis City, which became humanity's last safe place after the Black Fog disease spread across the world. I liked the way the game mixes this futuristic setting with a more traditional JRPG style, because the pixel art and strange characters make the world feel much more personal than I expected. The combat is probably the biggest surprise for me. Instead of normal turn based JRPG battles, the game uses bullet hell style encounters where I have to move around and avoid attacks while dealing with enemies. There is also a hacking theme to the battles, which fits the futuristic setting nicely. The fights can get quite hectic, but they are simple enough to understand without taking over the entire game. I enjoyed having these action focused sections break up the exploration and story. The story is really the main reason I kept going. Ann's search for her sister gives me a straightforward goal, but the deeper I get into the game, the more questions I have …

This game was very good and got me hooked. Some parts may have caused me some frustration, but all in all I had a fun time playing it. I got ending B, so it definitely made me a sad when Ann didn't come back, but i hope I'll be able to get the rest of the endings and the achievements in my new play throughs. And I'd love to be able to discover all the hidden lore this game has to offer.

For a free game, there is not much to complain about, considering I didn't pay for it. However, it's nowhere near a perfect game either. The gameplay is quite limited consisting of walking to the objective, some overworld puzzles, and a bullet hell battle once you arrive. Rinse and repeat that 4 to 5 times, and you've experienced the entire game. The battles themselves are fun and polished, but controls and movement are a bit weird. The story is quite basic and there is far too much dialogue. The game could do with half the dialogue and still provide a satisfying story. It felt like somebody took an extensive and descriptive conversation from a book and pasted it into a video game format. Additionally, the story is not really that intriguing, partially due to the long dialogues I found myself skipping through. The humour maybe lands for some players, but personally, I didn't enjoy much of the drinking jokes and anarchistic POV from the main character. Writing needs an improvement. That said, the ambiance is quite cohesive and the world feels very lived in with changing environmental elements once you pass through some locations multiple times, which I very much appreciated.
