vridniX

Inspired by some platform classics, vridniX is a very dynamic runner, available in several languages (french, english, german and chinese), developped by a new french team, Uncanaut. With an high quality soundtrack, and dialogues tinged with humor, vridniX bring a fresh breeze in the platform game universe. It will please the challenge seekers, and the platformers fans, and put their patience to the test. If you're looking for some skill-asking games, vridniX might be what you whant!

I'll try be as unbiased but as one can see I got it for free so take it with a grain of salt. The game is a platformer with a twist that once you start running, you can't stop. It's like a child of super meat boy and there is no pause button. Can't stop and you learn through death. So I'll start of with the overall positives: - Simple controls. Change direction and jump. 2-3 buttons (since R1 on my controller toggles direction while the D-Pad turns the protagonist in direction pressed). And it has controller support, I love games that has that. - Game is polished (in fact it was running around 160-240FPS for most of the time), with no spontaneous crashes. Only time there was noticeable lag was after I finished and was just doing some runs for fun. - It has skippable cutscenes. For those who want to go through the story can, but those who want to keep up with the fast paced course of the game also can just button mash through it and keep running. - Multiple approaches to a single problem. Some routes have a brute force approach (like you would normally) and a sneakier and possibly faster path. - Timer and death counter. Especially for speedrunning, having an in-game timer is a god…

Plop! Very awesome game! really kept me hooked throughout and on my toes. Was well paced and encouraged the player to learn the game themselves without too much handholding. Very simple basic controls that lead to quite a few interesting gameplay dynamics. Also did a good job introducing spicy elements along the way to keep things flowing and interesting! The narrative was both endearing as well as hilarious at times, and the music was phenomenal and fitting! Had a great time playing it! Great stuff!!!

If you enjoy the likes of Super Hexagon, Super Meat Boy or N++, you will definitely enjoy Vridnix. You play as Vridnix, as weird little... thing?, that wants to be a hero but ends up detroying everything around him. It is a very fun game, with simple but charming visuals, great level design and a good soundtrack on top of that. I definitely recommend it, even if you're not a big fan of tough platformers, as the difficulty curve is well managed and ease you nicely into harder levels.

Vridnix is a fairly decent and difficult platformer with the draw being that you never stop running. I particularly enjoyed the artstyle and level design and the music fit the game. There isn't a massive amount of levels to play, but the majority of your playtime is going to be spent on attempting certain difficult levels over and over again to finally gain enough proficiency to beat it. They try to change it up a bit from stage to stage by rotating the stages or having you navigate in the dark or by using teleporters. The bosses were all unique and brought a change of pace from the usual levels. The story was alright. You get some background on vridnix and his motivations and what his origins are. Some parts I found amusing, but the ending didn't feel right to me. The game also has you collecting pages or trophies to expand on the story, albeit optional, but the game doesn't give you a way to figure out where any potential secrets could be. Some sort of indicator would have been nice so one wouldn't have to spend too much time in a given stage trying to find them. I can't say I really enjoyed the main plot, but everything else is worth putting your money in it. Once you pick up the controller, you'll have a real hard time to stop playing because the game does a really good job at never making you want to take a break. The music alone is worth the price tag. Seriously, it's up there with danny baranowsky and the guys behind VVVVVV for the title of best indie games soundtracks. Really highlights some of the most memorable levels of the game. Also, there's some good jokes in it.
