War in a Box: Paper Tanks

This game is a "tower defense" game, the "fixed path limited placement" variation. Title is too long to repeat, so I'll just call it PT (Paper Tanks). Graphics are simple, but done deliberately to look as if they are carved out of paper, so a bit charming. You can go pure overhead or zoom down to first person view from the turrets you're placing, and back up again. Other than these, this game pretty much delivers what's expected out of this genre, and nothing more, so this is a "maybe buy if you pay less than $5 USD" recommendation. PT is a "fixed path, limited placement" tower defense game, where the enemies comes into the play field via an entrance, follow a fixed path, and exit at a certain point. Along the way, there are some spaces for your turrets, You can only drop turrets at those specific spots, nowhere else. WHAT TYPE of turrets to drop, and when to upgrade or replace them, is up to you. Enemies come in two types: ground vs air. They have different paths through the battlefield. I never thought I would complain about hitboxes in a TD game... yet here we are..

This nice Tower Defence game, set in a child's bedroom and featuring units from The Great War, has 24 levels which can be completed with a maximum of 3 stars each depending on player performance. Full star ratings are not required to progress to further levels but there is an Achievement for collecting 65 stars upon completion of the game. Anybody with knowledge of Tower Defence games will instantly feel at home here as War In A Box : Paper Tanks is a by-the-numbers example. We place various towers at set locations in an effort to destroy the columns of advancing adversaries before they reach the end of the road and deplete a player life. We begin with 20 lives per attempt but with many more enemies it is easy to lose even the early levels if our towers are incorrectly handled. The enemies appear from out of a cardboard box and move into another if they successfully reach their exit. We have a choice of only 5 tower types - heavy gun, cannon, flak gun, artillery and tesla - each with its own strengths and weaknesses - but not all are available for each level. It's a basic tower defense game but you have a limited amount of tower placement. I liked the cute cardboard vehicles from WW1 I didn't like trying to figure out where to place towers to win. which towers to place, it's a game of chance. Lose start over place different towers lose rinse and repeat. I didn't like the save either after every round. Overall I liked the game because it's a challenge.

PROS - Visually nice. Cardboard enemies / environment is different to typical sprites ripped from mobile games. CONS - Eventually this game doesn't have much meat on bones and quite fast it has shown all the tricks in it's sleeve.
