War Theatre: Blood of Winter is a good turn-based RTS where you take control of several different unit types to conquer a grid-based map. The game has a campaign told through partially animated characters, although the story isn't all that important here. The art style is something you either love or hate, similar to other Arcade Distillery games. It's very post-apocalypse like and mechanical, offset by strangely charming building models on the map. As for gameplay, each unit type has different abilities which lead to a complex rock-paper-scissors mechanic when it comes to facing the opponent. If you just go in blind, the AI will defeat you with ease. Each turn you earn money from controlled buildings, and you can then build new units and move existing units across the map. Combat either occurs automatically when you come in range, or you can manually start combat -- this allows you to make use of special abilities or multi-pronged attacks. Once a unit has taken full damage, it is removed. The scenarios end when the opposing (or your) commander is taken. The free game is basically just the tutorial, the rest of the missions comes in the DLC. If you like turn based strategies, giv…6 found this helpful
As of now I wouldn't recommend this game. The fact that all the single-player content is locked behind some "DLC", and there is no one playing multiplayer this seems doomed to fail. I do like the art, I like the idea of the game. But there really wasn't much to "try" before getting locked out by what I can only assume is day 1 "DLC". But if you like to gamble, maybe the single player is good. Best of luck.3 found this helpful
Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no viably populated servers/active player population. This game cannot be played as intended.

Warning: In-Game Cash Shop This game is infested with a toxic mobile app style cash shop. You will be prompted to and expected to give money/credit card details to the developers through this cash shop to buy in-game goods so you can play the game.
This is really a typical example of everything that's wrong with the gaming industry. At face value this looks like just a poorly made handheld (PS Vita) ported eastern RPG, but it's not. It's a P2W PvP crapfest where you spend money in the mobile app like cash shop to beat other players (there are none). There's a lot of things here that are completely, utterly unethical, all of which revolve around trying to scam gamers out of money for an incomplete PS Vita game. So, "War Theatre: Blood of Winter" is a dead PvP game. Why did it fail? It's video game autopsy time! Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails. Only a tiny proportion of the…1 found this helpful
Visually only slightly better than the original Mecho Wars (with the first War Theatre merely adding Commanders).
