We Slay Monsters is a small action game that puts me in the role of a monster hunter and keeps the focus firmly on fighting dangerous creatures. The premise is simple, but that works in its favour because I can get into the action quickly without having to work through a huge amount of setup. The combat is the main reason I would keep playing. Battles reward me for paying attention to enemy movements and choosing the right moments to attack, and tougher monsters give the basic system more room to shine. There is a satisfying difference between simply surviving an encounter and learning how an enemy behaves well enough to defeat it consistently. I also like the straightforward progression. Defeating monsters and improving my character gives me a reason to take on increasingly difficult challenges. It is not overloaded with complicated RPG systems, so the upgrades feel like useful additions to the combat rather than a distraction from it. The biggest problem is that the core loop can become repetitive. Once I have fought the same groups of enemies several times, the novelty starts to disappear.
