About West of Dead
Play as a gunslinger awakening in a supernatural 1888 Wyoming purgatory, battling wendigos and witches across procedurally generated wastelands in a cover-based shooter that blends fluid twin-stick controls with tactical combat. This darkly reimagined Wild West combines mythic consequences, Ron Perlman's narration, and a world that shifts based on the memories and beliefs of tortured souls.
A place of gun smoke and darkness, sin and damnation, wendigos and witches. A shifting, chaotic world that takes its form from the memories, culture or beliefs of the souls who pass through. When a dead man awakens with only the memory of a figure in black, he sets into motion a chain of events that have truly mythic consequences.
Step into the boots of the dead man William Mason (voiced by Ron Perlman) and descend into the grim and gritty world of Purgatory in this cover-based shooter which combines the fluidity of twin-stick controls and tactical cover usage. Put your skills to the test - Dodge behind cover as you try to outgun your enemies in the unknown procedurally generated hunting grounds. The Wild West has never been this dark.

Ok, just for you Ron,(Perlman) i'll give it another go!2 found this helpful
I want to say I like this game, I really do, but the flaws this game has just do it in. To start every time you die, you restart at the VERY beginning, which I mean "Oh just get good", and sure maybe, but not everyone has time in their long days to play a bogus ass game that robs you of everything when you die. I could name like 5 rogue like games that are better than this, not just because of the one flaw I mentioned a second ago, but one thing I'll give the game is that it's so pretty. For what it is, its got good graphics, level design, player/character models, and good animations. The narrator is Sam Elliot which makes it even cooler in a western type deal, but then you look at the game in a cosmic sense, and all it has is good graphics. I've spent many hours of my life on this game and never beat it. In all, I would NOT ever recommend this to anyone with a life. If western rogue like games that waste your time are your thing, be my guest.
A dark and gloomy, western themed rogue lite twin stick, cover based shooter narrated by the best voice in all off gaming (Ron Perlman) and I completely dig it. It's a pretty simple and straight forward set up, as is the gameplay, which makes it easy and quick to pick up and just play, while it still being a little more than a run and gun type of thing. And though you could technically blast your way through the early part of the game, there is some strategy involved in the room to room gun fights by taking advantage of cover and traps that make each fight feel a bit like turn based strategy without having to wait your turn. This mix of action and strategy feels balanced just right and it is very satisfying clearing an entire room sliding from cover to cover while dodging bullets and sticks of dynamite while your making each of your shots count. Highly recommended if your looking for an action game with a little bit of depth to the action while being easy to pick up and play, even if just for half an hour to an hour. Perfect for on the Steam Deck as well.
Tried multiple times to get into it, but it is just boring, in all senses. If you are a lot into western stuff and a narrator making a voice like its a John Wayne and Clint Eastwood 90s film, then buy it. I think it is a clear skip otherwise, in the sense that I can come up with at least 5 other games top of my head that are much better and more enjoyable if what you want is a top view rogue like. By the point you have played those, if you boot this one you are just gonna want to drop it forever, as I now will.
SO I got this during a steam sale, I think it was 1.29$ or so (thanks regional pricing). Its a very fun shooter roguelike, the voice acting is amazing. I have attached my PC specs here but I mostly play it on my Poco F7 via Gamenative, and its a wonderful experience there too, a locked 45FPS. The story is interesting, and in a good way. I'm curious why our main character, the sheriff, is in purgatory, though I won't lie and say I have kept track of everything. I only know the gist of what's happening. The gameplay is fairly straightforward. You have two guns, which can be fired with right trigger and left trigger. You move using the left trigger, and aim with the right. You can hide behind boxes which act as cover, where you can reload faster. Each gun has a unique effect, but none of them are objectively "the best". Because I'm an "unga bunga" kinda guy, I love my hard hitting weapons. There are abilities you can pick up. Dynamite, fast reload, a throwable axe, spear, etc. They're not very powerful but I don't think they're meant to be. As I see it, they're meant to be used with your weapons, compliment them rather than be the main focus. You obviously have you…
Rogue-lite, cowboy, afterlife. Need I say more? Amazing story and the protag looks like Ghost Rider, if that helps.
