Whipseey and the Lost Atlas

Boring and unfun. Not very difficult which is fine but the game is also not interesting at all to play.

Cute but un-freaking-playable. When you reach a point that requires swinging across, you're relying entirely on luck that your whip will connect with the ring/hook. There's no skill in that part of the platforming. It's miserable.

A cute and charming little game which is clearly inspired by many old NES games like Kirby and Gimmick. The graphics and music are a treat, but the gameplay sadly has slight jank at times (mainly with the jumping). My only "big let down" with the game is that the titular whip mechanic isn't really used in any interesting ways. Other than that it's a nice little thing worth the current pricetag.

Strangely locked at a low framerate (people in the forum say it's 24, which is very unusual). 60 is the minimum for a platformer, it feels very choppy and strange. Attack is both very slow to wind up and very laggy, and you have to frequently time a hit while jumping on a swing hook, which is way way more annoying that you'd expect in a game like this. Obnoxious enemy placement has guys 1 tile from the edge of platforms constantly, and you need to do a landing attack without mistiming your very laggy attack or slightly overshooting your movement (you have a lot of deceleration) Game says to uncover the mystery of the lost atlas, but it seems to never come up. I played this years ago when it was new and bounced off of it for all these problems, but also due to an area in stage one that i remember having instant death electrified seaweed in an awful swimming section. That seems to just do damage now, and having spent the time to beat the rest of the game, I now know that i can't recommend it. It wouldn't have taken much tweaking to make this a pretty fun little game, but the game just isn't fun.

This game is a fantastic speedrun. It's short, challenging, and there's room for optimization. It's NOT a Kirby ripoff. Just think about it. How? Completely different glide mechanic. No powers, no acquiring powers. Enemies hardly have any powers. Music and vibe are much different. Look through the reviews. Anything negative you see about this game is what make this speedrun great. Overcoming the BS is part of the fun.
