Well' What can I say. I purchased the game because I like City Building games. This game is just that. You get all the usual goodies, choosing your starting place, level of difficulty, naming your town, and all the usual options. You place your town center and then nothing. No instructions no tutorials the game simply is saying OK you silly old man (83) you've played these type of games you know what to do. After pressing a few buttons and waiting for my computer screen to put a gotcha up. But hey I do know how to play these games so playing was not so bad. Once you have found the tech tree the game does in fact become extremely interesting. It is not for the impatient however so I really would like to have the ability to follow the worker to fill up a little time. apart from that I can honestly say I am enjoying this game tremendously and for any city building fans this game is a must have. 9/10.22 found this helpful
nice game like the easy building style, also simple logistics and goods variaty (good level). graphics meh, old style. CPU and GPU load are insane since at ~500 pips my systems goes down to 20-30 fps on a 4090 ;) >> neutral rating would fit. And price should be around 10-15 not 30. dont like the constant arriving of new pips... just makes it a struggle since after some food supply built like a farm, the next farm is needed immeadetly. At least if you have 400+ pips, gets annoying. Make events to trigger to get more pips. Make like a port on the river. Where player can order new pips, may put in a communication post to ask for new pips ? Also the pips just take free houses, so you never know in which place are houses needed. Sure you could count the workplaces, etc. but not a good logic here. Make sort of tent-town, where newcomers are and if not put in proper house they will leave or so.9 found this helpful
This is basically Banished in the Old West. I got it because at the time it was dirt cheap, but even at that I'm almost tempted to go for a refund. I'm getting real sick of games that have super tight requirements in the mechanics of how far settlers will travel for specific resources without dying of starvation or cold while thousands of units of food are available... WHILE PROVIDING ZERO IN THE WAY OF TUTORIALS OR INSTRUCTION MANUALS! If I wanted to spend my time cataloging the mechanics of a game rather than playing it, I WOULD GET A JOB WRITING MANUALS FOR THE GAMING COMPANIES! Until they add a tutorial or make the pops less stupid, only get this if it's free.6 found this helpful
This is a tentative positive review (6.5/10). I haven't fully unlocked everything in the tech tree. This is, like many others, clearly trying to build on the success of Banished. This game is technically superior to Banished and unlike some others, a reasonable tech tree progression. The food system is interesting, if rather VERY brutal. And the map size is rather large. There are a number of issues though. While my potato PC can manage to run it decently, it is with significantly turning down the graphics. This is more a my PC thing, than a game issue in of itself, but Banish did handle this side of things well. There is a bug with building, where frequently, you have to destroy the construction site and rebuild it for the population to register it. This could be solved with a dedicated builder job. The job system. While similar to Banish, it lacks the overview management you could. Instead, jobs are assgined building by building causing some tedious Micro. Especially with juggling death waves due to the food system. The food system, is both a good and bad system. Unlike Banished, foods have a "hunger" stat. Which adds a layer of challenge, and tech progresion makes it eas…1 found this helpful
So far I like this and see the potential that it could become. First and foremost it needs a tutorial. It's easy enough to figure it all out after some time but a tutorial would make the experience better. Also it needs Steam Achievements. I was super disappointed to see there weren't any and that will make me want to play it less. For now I will recommend it but we will see how it progresses.
Took a spin, and the game ran on steam deck without any additional effort. Music, graphics, and controls are adequate for what I expected going in. I did end up starving most of my population after about year two in my first game, but enjoyed the attempted recovery following. Certainly a ways to go for the game regarding controls, unit differentiation and visibility, and mechanics. This is definitely one of the games ever made.
