Went in expecting a cute little RPG and ended up getting way more attached than I thought. Charming characters, fun combat, and Pieberry is impossible not to love.

Pieberry is so adorable! This game takes some elements from Atelier games in its core mechanics of crafting. Combat is fun and somewhat deep to make it interesting.

Great JRPG with a charming story, fun gameplay, and a super cute atmosphere. Pieberry is an adorable protagonist, and while the game is a bit on the easy side, it never stopped being enjoyable. The story kept me invested from start to finish, and the overall cozy atmosphere made it a joy to play.

I've been really enjoying this game, but at first, I couldn't put my finger on WHY, exactly. Eventually, though, I had an epiphany - and so, instead of just going on about the game's features and whatnot, I'll tell you how the game FEELS. Imagine, if you will, a game that you played, many years ago, on a PS2, or maybe the GameCube or the O.G. Xbox. Back when the advancement of technology had just opened up a bunch of new possibilities for game-developers, and bloated budgets plus corporate meddling hadn't closed a bunch of other ones off yet. It was a fresh and original JRPG that surprised you at every turn, becoming a formative childhood memory. Since then, it's had half a dozen sequels and several remakes, remasters and whatnot, and you still play both out of nostalgia, all while grumbling about how the WitchSpring franchise has been dumbed down under the guise of 'streamlining', and lost the harsh edge that its world and characters once possessed in the name of mass appeal and family friendliness. Got the game on sales and wow I am very impressed with the details and environment that the developer put their hearts and soul to this masterpiece. I did tried to get most of gears crafted and collecting almost everything. Since it was my first playthrough I just want every enjoyable of the game. The storyline is not just about battling and leveling, it have a lot of context and interaction with people, gods, witches and monster. I found some part is funny and in most time it was very sad moment (cried in some cut scenes). Overall if you loves anime, waifu, dark, dragon, RPGs like me should give this game a try.

WitchSpring R is a wonderfully pretty, and well-made game for sure, but also fell into a lot of pitfalls that many, many JRPGs tend to. The story was remarkably strong for the first half, as it wasn't just doing lore/world-building and exposition dumps, but slowly opened itself up over-time, keeping me invested. The various characters' growth also felt believable and earned. However, I'd say around chapter 4-5, in the second half of the game, the story does start to lose steam, and starts to reveal itself as a more typical/cliché JRPG/fantasy anime plotline. The MC who is set to "save the world", who wants to help absolutely everyone except the "big bad", and a somewhat weird and out-of-place romance. I have to expand on the "romance", because it could have easily ruined the story, but thankfully was kept minimal. What was there felt half-baked at best though, mostly because Justice is such a generic, one-note kind of character for a huge part of the runtime. Don't get me wrong, he does have some moments and does grow in the story, but compared to Livya, Justice is just far too backloaded into the ending sections the game offers in the main (non-epilogue) story.
