World Rally Arcade

Taken as a solo dev's summer project, this is actually pretty fun despite having some gripes. Before I dump on the dev with the negatives I'd like to say I have had a mostly fun time so far and that, to me, takes precedence over some of the other issues (ones that could be ironed out if time and resources allowed). Once you get a feel for the slide-happy handling, it can be enjoyable, and exciting in the same way that rally/racing games often can be - I've found some sections of the tracks genuinely thrilling - bombing through them as fast as I can whilst trying to maintain control of my slippy motor. The main negatives for me are the sometimes erratic physics which can lead to your car behaving unexpectedly (especially when landing or hitting minor areas around some track edges), a UI that could do with better highlighting selected areas (especially when using a controller to navigate) and perhaps most annoyingly, the frustrating omission of being able to reverse the chuffing car (especially when getting stuck on some piece of scenery)! I'm not expecting extensive tyre pressure, weight transfer or detailed collision modelling but come on, not having a means to reverse is about a…

"World Rally Arcade" is certainly tempting fate with the licensed World Rally Championship franchise, which this is not a properly licensed extension of. On the box it says pretty much what you think, a rally racing game, but what you get is WRC from Temu... a poor quality Unreal engine kitbash with only three maps, incredibly clunky and unpolished controls, and absolutely zero reason to want to play it. What do you do in the game? "Race" around [strike]three[/strike] four maps with a laughably terrible car asset. What were they thinking? Struggle with the janky controls, give up all hope in life. Since the controls can't be customized, this makes the game inaccessible for a wide range of gamers, including those who are left-handed, have physical impairments, or use international keyboard layouts. Developers have a responsibility to ensure gamers can customise their experience with the game. The "game" here is of a pretty low technical standard. The implementation is basic minimum effort stuff, more like a weekend project rather than a serious, professionally made product... and it's bad even compared to most amateur made games. another solid arcade-style rally game for PC. sadly the only dev had to move on, but this game is still better than most of the rally games I grew up playing.
