👺 Disappointed. Looks & sounds SO GOOD, but the gameplay is bad (not hard, just unfair). Constant memorization and repetition (falling onto enemies, small & fast yokais / projectiles, pits and instant deaths). The checkpoints placement is simply the worst. The chars' hitboxes are huge. The samurai has a useless immobile combo attack and it's easier to play as a ninja. Only two new moves (for each) in the store and nothing else (available only after completing any level). The skill animation takes time and during it you're motionless and vulnerable! Dash is strange, there is no place to use it. The heal items drop is so unbalanced and random. There are small "secrets" in the levels with potions, magic beasts and HP upgrades, but this doesn't help in the whole situation. An EASY mode has been added, but it's TOO EASY! (if you want to enjoy the game, play on it, since achievements ?not planned?) It was also funny when in the extra mode (unlocked after completing), you're asked to touch the screen. Yes the game is hard, in just the same way that it expect you to replay it and get better at it and familiarize with their mechanics, which I think is a welcome return to form after so many games neutered themselves for the sake of the masses. I don't think the game needed it but as per the request of the people with attention span of toddlers they have added an easy mode so if you are still having a hard time after lowering the difficulty that's not on the developers. The visuals are great, I have cleared a couple of stages so far so far. Every boss an enemy has its own charm (the jorogumo is mine and no one else can have her) My only gripe is that you don't have all your moves from the begging you need to buy a couple of them and in regards to the charge attack I think is by far feels the most powerful and pretty much allows you to not worry about having to account for the spacing nor the timing of your attacks as just basic attacks need you to understand enemies in order to use the third swing effectively that is if you don't want to take damage. Looked great in the screenshots, but it's mediocre. Only works with a controller, which is a sign of the devs being lazy, and the gameplay is just janky with dozens of enemies rushing at you throwing you into pits, or just standing there. Combo animation soft locks you while it plays. The music becomes annoying very fast. Here is the keyboard layout in case you're looking for it: Jump=Space Summon=Return(!) Slash=TAB (!!) Fun action platformer with Mega Man style level select. The game is difficult with the samurai sword guy and much easier with the projectile gal. The only exception is the final boss who dies very quickly to samurai sword guy. Would probably rate it higher if the game didn't have such a difficulty disparity between the characters. Feels more like a balance issue than a skill issue at the end of the day.

Yokai Hunter Shintaro is a good casual Hack and Slash, fantasy game, now then the story. In a village deep in the woods an evil Tengu has stolen a powerful crystal that has helped bring balance between human and yokai, now it's up to its two protectors to get it back and stop the evil Tengu. So what’s the likes, the enemies and bosses are all really good they're all based off of classic japanese Yokai, they're all very fun to look at and if you know or just have a passing knowledge of Japanese folklore then you'll definitely recognize some of them. The pixel graphics is very good with a great use of colors and designs that does a good job in capturing the feel of an arcade game from the colors and designs for the characters, enemies and the world itself. The levels are good, pretty diverse with a nice set of locations from inside of a train to an ice covered village and a spooky graveyard. The gameplay is good it's your standard hack and slash 2D platformer, but it does have some things that help very it up like for starters you can play as one of two characters one is a guy with a sword that lets you deliver multiple attacks and a girl who has kunai that can be great for long di…

Nice and challenging gameplay in retro classic style. Most of the levels are nice and designed pretty interesting, and final boss fights also feel nice! Sprites are also pretty pleasing to the eye. About disadvantages (Only one) - lack of new skills that you can open for one out of 2 characters, and those skills are not that useful. Definitely can recommend as an enjoyable 2D platformer that perfectly captures the gameplay and style of the classics
