"Yunoia" is a student project from the University of Central Florida, once mmore making us ask the question if it's really good for the gaming industry if every student who has a game design homework assignment really needs to publish that on Steam, whether they passed or failed. This one is probably somewhere between a D+ and a C-. It's a 3D rendered 2D retro platformer with a swing mechanic, and not much else. It's short, and unengaging, because it's a student project, and overall this is a bit of a "meh". This features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's clear the developers behind this didn't understand that. Not every "free" game really is. While it is verrrryyyy janky, it's still an enjoyable puzzle platformer experience with a pretty art direction especially with the 2d cutscenes.2 found this helpful
honestly the atmosphere is interesting enough and the game is free so i think its worth a play. it doesnt take too long to complete, the music is chill, and i like some of the environments they put together. i had a few gameplay/bugs gripes but by far the grappling hook was the most frustrating...1 found this helpful
Feeling quite mixed about Yunoia, it is a graphically pleasant experience with some fine art and animation yet the controls and overall movement feel quite jank. You will likely fail to make what appear to be simple jumps due to how your momentum and direction shift willy-nilly at some points. Despite this, I think the concept and art/music direction warrant a playthrough, as the game does show a lot of talent and creativity.1 found this helpful
