What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Deadlight features great music and atmospheric visuals, but is hampered by clunky gameplay mechanics, trial-and-error puzzle design, inconsistent controls, and a weak story that many find underwhelming despite completing it. Players are divided on the experience, with some finding it an enjoyable zombie platformer worth playing through and others finding it tedious and disappointing, particularly noting difficulty spikes and keyboard control issues that can feel unfair. Most suggest checking it out only when on sale if you enjoy the zombie apocalypse genre or games like LIMBO.
The most minor of recommendations. Great music, visuals, and world design are unfortunately let down by middling gameplay, poor voice acting, and a bizarrely meaningless plot. Commits several of the cardinal sins of game design - trial and error based puzzles, softlocks, dead end sequences, and inconsistent movement/interactions - making parts tedious to play through. It's just generally quite clunky and a bit buggy to boot. But I liked it enough to play it to the end. Worth a look if its on sale and you are hankering for a Zombie-based action platformer, or an off-brand LIMBO. 5/10 game, 9/10 soundtrack1 found this helpful

I'm really torn on whether I would actually recommend that someone play this game or not. There are some aspects of it that I really liked, but there are also some other aspects that I can honestly say on my mother and father's lives are some of the worst game design choices I have ever seen in my entire life. The environments look nice. I really enjoyed what they did with the 3d environments mixed with the 2d side-scrolling gameplay here. I haven't played very many games with this style, and it stuck out to me. It looks quite nice for a game that came out in 2012. The exploration, for what it is, is fun. This isn't a metroidvania, but, you can tell that the developers made the game with that type of level design in mind, just on a much smaller scale. This game is at its best when you feel like you are flowing through the level, going from sequences of running through buildings and fighting zombies, running through more buildings, fighting more zombies, and so on. It's a pretty simple game, but the combat and movement come together to make it feel good when the action and running around mesh together. There are some Assassin's Creed / Mirror's Edge style parkour and climbing mech…
About 5 years back I have completed this game but a Derector's Cut version, back then I was younger, considerably so, and have seen less games. This time the game took 2 times less time to complete, and, actually, would take 1 hour less if I wasn't eating my dinner xd. The positives of the game are: artstyle, simple story with good message which is all I need from an indie platformer of such quality, pretty good graphics for its time of release. The game doesn't do anything spectacular, doesn't bring any new ideas or shock the player with insane quality or new mechanics. Oh, one good thing about this "normal" version is that it doesn't have the survival and some other mode, I remembered that those exists simply by looking at the achievements of the Director's Cut, I hate when single player games have some weird game modes or force the player to somehow interact with other players (like having friends who own and have played this game, it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ blasphemy). Now the negatives remain the same even after all these years: hitboxes, some scripting or certain scenarios, and how these 2 issues really made me rage in Nightmare mode 2 chapter, which is extremely long for no reas…
Deadlight is a game worth play, but it`s up to you.
For 90 minutes into the game, it was a piece of cake and I really enjoyed it. Then there is this sprint and double-roll section where I died 100 times (that dude in the cellars who rips me off weapons and I have to complete his trial). Keyboard controls are simply too laggy for me to pass this section. I think I am really not bad at these kind of games and really blame it on the lousy reaction times of the key combinations. Since there is no difficulty setting or trainer available on the internet and I hate controllers, I'm out. A pity.
