✦ AI summary

Dragonkin: The Banished is praised for its engaging combat system, polished interface, and flexible hexagrid skill-building mechanics that allow creative character customization, with players highlighting good graphics and solid quality-of-life features. However, players commonly criticize the loot system for dropping too much common junk that doesn't meaningfully improve characters, a confusing multiplayer setup, technical performance issues, and particularly weak endgame content that undermines an otherwise enjoyable experience.

The game has some fun elements. The combat is fun. The interface is very good. The main thing that needs to be changed is better loot. Even at the highest levels the loot is not good. Way too much common junk. If I am going to grind I want to get something that improves my character. That almost never happens.

It's a very middling ARPG propped up by the build system. There's a ton of freedom about how to piece your build together. I found a number of things that worked even before the strongest hex tiles were dropping. When a build of my design popped off in the field, it made the loop really click. It also led to times where I went deep into the tank figuring out how else to use skills. The structure of the game is messy, and the multiplayer feels they deliberately tried to make it confusing. It took quite a while to figure out how to play with my friend. The story is also pretty meaningless, so we started skipping all the cutscenes. Performance was also a bit shaky with some crashes for both of us. I think these failings together make it a game that is primarily for people deep into ARPG mechanics who doesn't care about story or playing with friends.

Great game, having a good time. Feels between Diablo 4 and POE(2) and has the right mix of features to make it enjoyable. The good things: * Graphics of the environment looks great. The graphics of the character looks 2D, but since the focus in isometrics ARPG games is more on the environment and monsters that is a good mix. * Love the additional city building and that it improves the more your character grows. * The hexagrid skill system is simple enough that you do not need guides or do a whole master thesis to understand what is going one. But it gives enough room for variaty in builds. * Predictable beat throughout the game, in monsters, areas and quests. * A lot of QoL I am missing in other games The things that can be improved: * The city is too large, that forces me to just click through the map to quickly visit al vendors. Which takes away the point of upgrading your city and seeing it grow. I would prefer if all the vendors were close to each other and convey the grow of the city through different means. * The upgrade system of the city does not match where the character is. For example I can now destroy Dragonic armor, but I have seen 0 armors of that type. * I can upgr…

The story is funny, the music is nice, and both the gameplay and graphics are good, but the final phase of the game—the endgame itself—is truly terrible and boring! That’s a shame, because the game is genuinely good and deserves fun endgame content... 6.5/10
