Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a charming, old-school turn-based RPG with well-crafted cutscenes and an engaging story that appeals to players seeking nostalgic Nintendo-style gameplay. However, opinions diverge sharply: some find it a rewarding classic experience, while others criticize it as repetitive and grindy, with shallow exploration, basic towns, and a slow pace outside of combat that lacks the depth of celebrated 80s and 90s RPGs. Players also report technical issues including bugs and stutters that can detract from the experience.
Cute turn-based adventure RPG, gives me old-school Nintendo vibes. Story is cute and combat is interesting, it can be a bit grindy at one point but overall was a nice experience. Cutscenes are really well made.
Pros: it looks pretty. Cons: The battle system is as basic and cookie cutter as an RPG can ever get. Yeah, we've done this in hundreds of other RPGS, so what else do you got to bring to the table? Overworld? Nope. Its as basic as Super mario world. Levels or dungeons? No. Not really, and very few and far between. Towns? Not really. just points on the map that open a basic dialogue screen to buy stuff. This game just focuses mainly on generic battles over and over, and everything else was a quick cheap afterthought that bareley exists or not at all. They perfected a well balanced RPG in the 80s and 90s, but this game said screw it. all people want to do is battles, nothing else matters.

One of my top 10 experiences in an RPG game.
I really enjoyed this game when I played it seven years ago - I love the combo of Calibretto, Gully, and Red Monika - but for some reason the New Game+ playthrough I'm doing now is feeling really boring. The game is almost deliberately slow with its animations, down moments, its meandering pace story-wise, and its meandering pace actual-movement-wise. If you can get over it you'll find a great turn-based RPG for an underappreciated IP, but...just a fair warning.
