What Steam players say

Unavowed is a superb modern point-and-click adventure that consistently impresses players with its engaging story, memorable characters, and excellent pixel art style, featuring innovative mechanics like selecting different party members for each chapter to solve puzzles in unique ways. The narrative delivers compelling moral dilemmas and a standout twist that recontextualizes earlier events, with players particularly praising the emotional writing and the manageable chapter length.
TL;DR: A very fun Point and Click Adventure. Pros: - Story: The story is reminiscent of many other Urban Fantasy stories but has enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. There is twist about 75% through the game that is fantastically executed and recontextualises a lot of the prior content. Characters are somewhat uneven. I liked Eli and KayKay but the other members of the team were a bit meh. Funnily the games side characters are actually far more memorable as I sit down to write this review than some of the team members Most of the Moral dilemmas the player character faces are actually somewhat interesting and do give the player pause to consider what is the best option (and mercy is not *always* the right answer) - Graphics: Superb. Monster designs are all memorable and some of the background work is phenomenal. - Atmosphere: Well maintained what with the pouring rain and effective sound effects. Feels very noir, just as intended. Neutral: - Length: It took me about ~6 hours to complete the main story. - Puzzles: The puzzles were mostly just OK. There are a lot of them but only 2 actually gave me any pause for thought. A few more head scratchers would not have g…3 found this helpful
FYI before I start: I'm on Mac and the Galene fight went just fine, no bugs. I'm about 2/3 through the game and holy cow this game just keeps getting better as it goes along! This chapter I just played — each one takes about an hour or so I think, which also makes this perfect if you want a satisfying but not time-consuming experience on a weeknight — took me on an emotional roller coaster from tears to bittersweet to cheering out loud. That's good writing. The surprise fire mage didn't hurt either lol. I just click with this. Great pixel art style, gritty without being grim. Interface is functional and mostly unobtrusive, though I keep wishing for some key commands; I especially keep hitting esc to get to save options, when that's only available by clicking in the top right of the screen. The voice acting is absolutely top notch. All too often, voice acting in games might be well-performed, but be sooooo sloooooowwwww. It drives me nuts listening to the super-slow cadence of the voice acting in so many games. Not Unavowed! Here, the lines are delivered at a natural speaking speed. My one quibble with the voice acting is the recording quality varies noticeably depending on the …1 found this helpful
Amazing game!! Classic Wadjet Eye. Full recommend!
Incredible game, lots of player freedom, lots of character building, a strong plot, a fun world that you get to see so many parts of. Really excellent stuff, not surprising Wadjet only really makes the best
Probably my favourite Wadjet Eye game, along with Technobabylon. Introduces some interesting innovations to the point & click genre - most notably selecting your party members for each chapter, who each have different powers which allow you to solve puzzles in unique ways. Top tier modern point & click game that fans of the genre should absolutely play.
Very likely the most replayable adventure game ever made, Steam achievements notwithstading. As with all WEG releases, I first went into it blind in late 2018, and I long ago lost count of how many times I've played this game. Anyone on the fence about getting Unavowed can dive right in and tell me I'm right later. :)
