The 58th year of Shouwa, early summer
It’s June, and the summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years.
By day there are crickets, and by night there are cicadas.

We’re in Hinamizawa, a small village in the countryside.
There are fewer than two thousand people here. But every year, there is an event.

This event is a mysterious death.
(The series has run from 1979 to 1983)

On a certain day in June, someone dies, and someone else goes missing.
The series of deaths is connected to the upheaval surrounding the dam construction project.
A murder case that was covered up is being reenacted.
Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse?

Someone who was supposed to be there isn’t.
Someone who wasn’t supposed to be there is.

Someone who was alive last night is dead now.
And someone who is here right now isn’t alive.

So, there is no way to avert tragedy. There is no choice but to give up.
But don’t give up.

Only you can stand up to this.

I only got into this series because it was popular, but also because it caught my attention that this story was from the same author as Silent Hill f's, which I really enjoyed, and seeing that the first chapter was free, I just gave it a shot The first two or three chapters are really, really slow. But I'd say this works perfectly because of the meticulously thought-out buildup they bring. After finishing them, I got so deeply immersed in the story that I spent 12 hours in just 2 days to finish it. The story itself is absolutely mesmerizing, keeping you on the suspense of what's going to happen next. And it doesn't lose any momentum through the rest of it; once you start, you won't want to leave without finishing. Though to be honest, it has its flaws. I would say the pacing is sometimes somewhat slow, and some things are described with so, so much detail that they feel a bit unnecessary Still, I have to acknowledge that just because of that, the immersion feels so realistic and genuine that sometimes it might feel like not a tale, but an anecdote. It is incredible how much you can get from what seems to be a couple of seconds or a few minutes I definitely recommend this story…
