The art style is retro and nice, and the story matches the vibe well. The core gameplay is responsive, quick, fun, and with 30 minute runs being the default: predictable — that makes it easy to fit into my day even when my time is limited. The voice acting is a little quirky but I consider it appropriate for the style, and quite fun. HoT knows what kind of game it is, and it does itself well. Not all the stats are well explained, and some of the choices and abilities seem vastly superior than others, bringing questions of balance into the fray, however, most characters make wildly different use of each stat, so they all seem to find a home somewhere, eventually. The UI is a bit clunky to navigate, but most of what you need is available, albeit sometimes not how you would prefer to see/access it. For a Vampire Survivors fan, I think Halls of Torment is worthy competition, but it's lacking the level of polish needed to bring it into the S tier of the genre.

A great auto shooter mob hell game. Many classes, decent upgrade system, not many levels, but there are challenges and extra difficulty modifiers. 8/10
