King’s Well

A fun deckbuilder powered by normal playing cards. Each round you are dealt a hand of cards and have an array of devices to stick your cards in to hopefully create a killer poker hand. Your goal in each encounter is to kill the baddy while doing your best to being damaged yourself. Some devices might only work with black cards or maybe it only accepts face cards. If you have a spare card from your poker hand or think the device's effects is more important than getting a low ranking poker hand, chuck it in the device. Whatever cards remain in your hand at the end of the turn are converted to the best possible poker hand to damage the baddy, heal yourself, armor yourself for the baddies attack this turn, or money. If you successfully defeat the baddies, you'll get money or the ability to upgrade a card. Upgrading a card is just sticking a badge on it that will grant its listed effect if used in a device or as a poker hand (depending on the ability). This is the basic gist of the game as you encounter tougher and tougher baddies until you face off against the the final boss or die trying. This game is fantastic. It is a cross between slay the spire, balatro, and Poker quest. It 100% is a very skilled based deck builder as you get to the higher levels. 10/10

A fun, one more run, card game that is part Balatro and part Slay The Spire. That is the easiest way to describe the pure fun and enjoyment I am having with this game. I enjoy the way you are allowed to manipulate the deck to get stronger cards to play in the machines, while upgrading those machines and trying to figure out if it is worth it to keep a poker hand or not when you end you turn. And on top of that, the enemies are always doing something other than just attacking and you have to keep a sharp eye on the skills they possess. King's Well is in my personal top 10 for games of 2026, and it wasn't even on my radar!

Kind of a cool concept - something like Balatro and STS had a baby. But it becomes repetitive VERY quickly - was bored before finishing first run. If greatly expanding options, types of enemies, etc. I could see it eventually working though.

It's an interesting take on the Poker Roguelite Genre, the Poker Hands are secondary to the Damage you do from burning cards as fuel for your machines. Seems well programmed, but has a few bugs. Hope it takes off and gets some of the UI elements cleaned up.
