The scariest part of this game is 5pm. You've just run-walk-run-walked (stamina bar seems only to make an impact on how much you can run) back to your hideout to empty your tiny inventory (even fully upgraded) because there's no point in exploring even one more room if you can't pick up even one more rag. But it's 5pm, so there's not really enough time to go back out before 8pm when you need to be back at the hideout for the night. So you wait around. Then it's night. And you wait around. At about midnight you play a tiny game of tower defense where maybe you survive the night or you don't, it doesn't really matter. If you survive you wait around for a bit more until sunrise at ... 8am (?). There's great art and a cool setting here but my god, is it just so boring.

One of the bleakest games ever made. Dark wood can be genuinely difficult to finish, due the nature of its atmosphere, just when you think there's real genuine hope for a character, it gets snatched away in an instant. Nothing is ever simple, or maybe it is... Go on, try to conquer the woods.

It's a very well made game it knew it's purpose and executed it pretty well what drawn me the most to this game was it's atmosphere just the sheer creepiness of the game kept me wanting to play and explore this strange and unknown world and the characters in it each interaction pulls you deeper into unraveling their tragic stories and discovering how they ended up here. The gameplay mechanics were a breath of fresh air not what you usually find in games and it was a pretty fun system. The night time system is somewhat bland in the beginning but the events that trigger during the later days balances out the wait for the night to end. The combat is well made imo none of the monsters is overpowered you just need to know how to deal with them (or just blast them). Some of my personal gripes were how slow the climbing animations are and that some abilities are just easily forgotten or not really usable which makes choosing ur abilities a limiting experience but it just a personal preference.
