About Galactic Civilizations IV

✦ AI summary

Lead an interstellar civilization through exploration, diplomacy, warfare, and technological advancement in this 4X grand strategy where AI-driven alien factions pursue their own agendas across procedurally generated galaxies. Customize every aspect of your empire—from your species' traits and fleet designs to your victory path—with AI-generated lore and diplomacy, supporting anything from hour-long skirmishes to months-long campaigns.

Prepare yourself to explore the galaxy, research new technologies, meet new alien civilizations and develop a galactic civilization that will pass the test of time.

As leader of a fledgling interstellar species, it’s up to you to guide your people to develop new worlds, construct new kinds of starships and fight wars to ensure your civilization survives in what is often a hostile universe.

4X Meets Grand Strategy

eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate are just the start! Our in-game storyteller is combined with a sophisticated AI strategist to ensure that the living, lore rich universe you are experiencing is also populated with opponents who follow their own agendas and wield the intellect to make good on them.

Design Your Own Cosmic Legacy

Unleash your creativity with the unrivaled power of AlienGPT by describing your civilization’s characteristics, preferences, and aspirations, and watch our AI weave them into distinctive lore, diplomatic dialogues, starship selections, and ambassador portraits.

Play Tall or Wide

Govern as few, or as many, worlds as you like with the Core World and Colony split system. Tall play is viable by linking many Colonies into just a handful of Core Worlds, greatly increasing their resource output. Alternatively, many lower class planets can be manually improved and developed for a super-wide playstyle.

Craft Custom Interstellar Fleets

Harness your creative abilities to construct interstellar armadas with the Ship Designer, a feature that allows you to design and customize your own interstellar spacecraft. With an array of options for hulls, weapons, engines, and more, you can create a fleet that perfectly suits your strategy and style.

Forge a Unique Empire

With setup options that allow the player to play games lasting less than an hour, or for months, Galactic Civilizations IV supports many viable strategies. Create or play as a civilization with deep diplomatic and cultural abilities or play as a ravenous species bent on spreading to every world in the universe: Galactic Civilizations offers a deep set of options to ensure your style of play is rewarded.

Claim Victory Your Way

Conquering your rivals with force of arms isn’t the only way to win - enlighten the galaxy with superior cultural influence, navigate treacherous diplomatic waters to unite your rivals under your leadership, or earn a Prestige Victory with difficult Galactic Challenges.

Never The Same Game Twice

Experience thrilling adventures within procedurally generated galaxies teeming with surprises. Engage with a multitude of galactic events and rival civilizations to ensure every game is a unique and exciting experience, filled with challenges and opportunities.

✦ AI summary

Galactic Civilizations IV has a devoted following who appreciate its civilization and spaceship design tools, but the game is significantly hampered by persistent technical issues including lag, ship-stuck bugs, and incomplete game systems that have gone unfixed despite years of post-release support and ongoing DLC releases.

I enjoyed playing this game and checking out the new AI features, I was impressed by the improvements to the in game AI as patches were dropped, the fact I played it for almost 700 hours should attest to that. I took a break from the game, I reinstalled it being curious about how the in game AI decision making had evolved. I go to create a new race and use the AI race generator using a brief description, which was one of the new really cool improvements with this instalment of GC, except the button is unresponsive. I hover it to read that one of the core features of GC4 is disabled because the user is unauthenticated. Unauthenticated, I own the game and load it up through steam with a registered user ID how is that not an authenticated user? When I bought this game all I needed to do was install it and all features were available to me, now I need to go register my game that I had already been playing and using the AI race generator before I can use aforementioned core feature of a game that I bought. I am done with this game, I have no intention of participating in this rug pull.

This game runs horribly. Even on Medium maps with medium settings you get constant freezes, stutters, and skipping. It also offers very little in the way of cool and/or new features from GCIII - not recommended.

esta igual al Galactic Civilizations 3, pero este me resulto mas sencillo de entender y a su vez mas moderno, me encanta, esto es divertido

Great game. Simplified but improved colonization and shipyards. Has some more ship parts for more ship customization. New game mechanics make the mid to late game more interesting. If you enjoy GalCiv3, you'll enjoy GalCiv4. 145hrs in and still haven't run into the any of the bugs from previous reviews. The only recurring error I've encountered so far is a Memory Error, which is only due to my hardware not the game.
