Pumpkin Woods

At time of review I only have about 3 or 4 hours in the game, but I absolutely adore it already. I've not had any issues with performance, but I see in other reviews that some people have. I'm running on a laptop with a 4090, and have had no stutters or any issues while on default settings. The game is very much not a handholding type of game, which has honestly been refreshing for me. There's a lot of joy in discovering areas and figuring out how to get certain items/do certain things. There's enough hints around to make it not a frustrating experience and more of a relaxing one. If you want a game that has minor quests available, but isn't pushy about them, and is a life/farming type game with little to no constant interaction with others, this is a gem for that. The vibe of this game is honestly immaculate. I've constantly searched for witchy-type survival games and this is so far the only one outside of modded minecraft that has really scratched that itch for me. I really feel like a novice witch learning the ropes when I play, and there is a "cozy" mode for if you want to relax even more (though I haven't found the survival mode overly challenging so far).

I am pleasantly happy with this game and am hopeful for further development. So far I've only played chill mode while getting familiar with the game and enjoying a casual style, also the calm/non-hand-holding style meaning you figure it out on your own. I got the hang of it quickly and have explored half of the map? Farming resources found in different fields/abandoned wagons & homes, fall vibes, creepy music, witch "story", trade for goods, craft and/or locate items to complete quests. The few voice lines from MC gives Diiablo 2 FMC mage voice. Would love more character customization and a quicker startup screen (so far). Excited to see what else the game has in store.

The game is beautiful and I'm really loving it, but it is a grindy one, at least early game. It would be nice to get more materials at a time, one plank from an entire tree is brutal. Running everywhere is also a grind, but I have not yet found a horse. Lots of unicorns, which I love, but no mount yet. I struggled a little with direction and got confused a number of times, but I'm hoping to figure things out and perhaps make a brief guide or at least a resource map. Doing things out of order seems to leave the game confused on your progression; I had built 2 furnaces and the game progression didn't register it until after I destroyed one, since I built them before being prompted to do so. The hunger drain is also a bit of a grind and I was playing chill mode first, so I imagine I would've died of hunger multiple times over in the survival mode. Storage is also super tricky, with juggling the sacks and the baskets and the way it stacks. After stacking a few, there's a visual bug that makes all the inventory in the basket appear the same, even when its not. Unstacking later, seemed to solve the issue. I have spent the past 4 days obsessively playing this game and I have had so much fun! It's definitely still in the very early stages but you can already tell there is so much potential. I have already completed all of the tasks and quests so I am eagerly awaiting new updates, and can't wait to see what you guys add next in the game.

Exploring the woods has been so much fun. Enjoying the aura and ambiance and the witchy/autumn/Halloween vibes.

Quick review after just over an hour of play. Just released and was really looking forward to this game. Although I am recommending it, it's kind of 60/40 in favour. The world is extremely flat right now. It's playable and there is so much in it already but it's quite 'meh'. I look forward to seeing how the devs continue developing this.
