Your death is only a footnote as your lineage continues with new playable heirs, either planned… or not.
- Discover a sprawling simulated world teeming with peasants and knights, courtiers, spies, knaves and jesters, and secret love affairs. An extensive cast of historical characters can be romanced, betrayed, executed, or subtly influenced.
- Explore a vast medieval map stretching from the snowswept Nordic lands to the Horn of Africa, and the British Isles in the west to the exotic riches of Burma in the east. Claim, conquer, and rule thousands of unique counties, duchies, kingdoms, and empires.
- Each character is larger than life, with traits and lifestyle choices determining their actions and schemes. Prompt fear and dread as you rule with an iron fist, or inspire your subjects with magnanimous deeds. Genetics can be passed along to your children, be it the gift of genius or crippling stupidity.
- Groom your heir with the appropriate guardians or educate them yourself. If found wanting, marry them off or despatch them through other means.

200 hours in Crusader Kings III. Started as Murchad with one simple goal: unite Ireland. I united Ireland in about 16 years. Then my daughter turned 16 and confessed her love for me. I thought, “This probably doesn’t happen every campaign. I should see where this goes.” So naturally, I abandoned the entire Kingdom of Ireland, ran away with my daughter, became an adventurer, and traveled toward Africa and the Middle East looking for Messalianism, because apparently the logical solution to incest is not ending the relationship but finding a denomination of Christianity that approves of it. Unfortunately, Murchad was getting old and his health was collapsing. At some point he went blind. So I started spending all my money upgrading the camp with anything that might keep him alive. This created a minor economic problem. By “minor economic problem,” I mean my entire adventurer camp became a mobile intensive care unit. No proper army. No useful military infrastructure. Barely any money. Limited contracts. Barely enough provisions to travel through the desert. Every coin I earned went toward another building that might give Murchad six additional minutes of life.
