Werewolf: The Apocalypse — Heart of the Forest

Great WoD visual novel, probably one of the best not based on the Choice of Games engine. The art is great and atmospheric, and finally a good amount of possible choices. While the games is quite short (less than 3 hours) and I would have preferred more content, the plot is not too rushed. I played on linux, I had to activate GE compatibility and then it ran smoothly.

This is an excellent format for a storytelling game and will attract those that want a break from button smashing, its basically an interactive book that is done with high quality writing and effect branching. Excellent...we need more!

Fairly short and takes a while to get going, plot feels a bit basic like an introduction to the lore rather than its own thing within the setting. But otherwise has a very good presentation, decent writing, choices had meaning. A slow playthrough took me two and a half hours beginning to end, if you think thats worth the price go for it.

I'm gonna give this a soft recommend but have mixed feelings about it honestly, the game is short but sweet which is fine if you got it at a massive discount like I did... but the very sudden and hard yank in direction midway through the story left me conflicted. On the one hand the story has a surprising amount of choices and amazing art to go along with it... on the other completely dropping the first part of the story to go for the second half felt... jarring to say the least. Still liked it and recommend at a discount.

It's a good game, and I enjoyed playing it. There are also a reasonable number of branching choices. That said, the story is quite short, and it felt more like the beginning of a larger story than a complete one. It seemed like the main character was meant to go on more adventures in future games, but since this game came out in 2020, I guess those plans never happened. Because of that, the main character's story feels incomplete, and it wasn't quite the epic adventure I had imagined. Still, it's an enjoyable game and worth playing.

Full disclosure, this game is relatively short - playtime at the time of is my first playthrough at the time of. The story is good and I like it but there just simply isn't a lot of story. A book is not concluded in 3.5 hours. I paid 1.74 CAD for this experience (90% off) - my money was well spent - the experience is good and leaves you wanting more just don't spend full price on this game however if you read this and are on the edge at a similar pricepoint and like werewolf / vampire stories - get it. You'll have an hour to refund the game anyways.
