✦ AI summary

Zortch is a compact retro-styled first-person shooter that players praise for its responsive movement, creative weapons with unique mechanics, varied enemy design, and bizarre science-fiction aesthetic that sets it apart from modern shooters. The deliberately rough visuals and eccentric personality hide substantial depth, with players particularly appreciating the exploration opportunities and hidden secrets scattered throughout thoughtfully constructed levels.

Zortch is a compact first-person shooter that captures the speed, weirdness, and straightforward entertainment of classic PC shooters while giving the formula its own eccentric science-fiction personality. Developed and published by Mutantleg, it avoids the cinematic excess of many modern FPS games and instead concentrates on exploration, responsive movement, unusual enemies, and weapons that are simply enjoyable to use. Its deliberately rough retro presentation may initially make it look like a novelty, but underneath the strange visuals is a thoughtfully constructed shooter with considerably more variety than its modest appearance suggests. The adventure follows Zortch Maxinum, a short-order cook and amateur engineer who wants to escape the boredom of everyday life by going on vacation. What follows is a frantic attempt to escape an increasingly bizarre extraterrestrial situation. The story provides enough context to keep the journey entertaining without interrupting the action with excessive exposition. A mysterious voice occasi…

Are you ZORTCHING me?!?!?! High marks for this game, the visuals are truly something to be gawked at with some of the coolest locations I've ever seen in a boomer shooter. All of the guns have their own unique gimmicks and it took me an embarrasingly long amount of time to discover the secondary fire on a few of them which was a neat surprise. There's also a generous variety of enemies to be encountered which always keeps things fresh. If you blaze through through the levels the game turns out relatively short, but those who allow themselves to freely explore the stages will be rewarded with some extra depth as there is plenty of oddities and secrets abound. Zortch outta ten.
