About Gestalt: Steam & Cinder
Slash, shoot, and dash through the sprawling Steam City of Canaan as elite mercenary Aletheia, mixing melee combos with gunplay while uncovering ancient secrets that threaten civilization itself. Customize your abilities and gear to take on clockwork horrors and corrupt overlords across a vast world packed with side jobs, mysteries, and rival encounters.

Join Aletheia and a vibrant cast of characters as they race to discover the secrets of the Steam City of Canaan. Clobber armies of Clockwork golems and hunt horrors that slither through depths once forgotten. Thwart the twisted schemes of Canaan’s corrupt overseers, the nefarious Comitium. Fight for mankind’s survival and reveal the dark and dangerous truths riveted into the very foundations of the Steam City.
Step into the shoes of Aletheia and tread the path of the Soldner, an elite mercenary of Irkalla who lives one job at a time. Take up the sword and gun, combining a slew of melee combos and deadly gunplay in staggering feats of skill that will leave your enemies reeling.
Chase down a frenzied mutant charging through the grimy stalls of the Irkallan Black Market, leap across the molten pools blazing in the eternal furnace of Fornax, and fight off hordes of blood-drunk Raiders that prowl the fathomless depths of the Scrap Sea in search of their malignant god.

Canaan is vast, and inside its swirling steam lie innumerable mysteries waiting to be unraveled. After a routine job goes awry, Aletheia sets out on an epic journey to uncover ancient enigmas threatening the very foundations of the Steam City. Challenge powerful new rivals and catch up with old friends as you carve your path through Canaan. Take on side jobs to earn a bit of extra scrap and delve into a history lost to the vagaries of time.
Or maybe you’d just like to wash down your worries at Vincent’s Pub and listen for a rumor or two…

Dash, dodge, and double-jump to keep out of harm’s way and stay in one piece. Wield a furious and fearsome array of abilities and grow stronger with each foe you defeat.
Spend experience points to unlock new skills and trade scrap for accessories to customize your build and go toe-to-toe with some of the most formidable creatures to ever lumber beneath the copper sky.

Hear that? The clang of a hammer stinging blood-red steel… The sinister murmur of heresies rushing through ancient pipes… Riddles echoing through vaulted halls of marble and madness. Sounds like fate has a job in store for you, Soldner—it’s time to earn your scrap.

“Thine trembling works of Reason naught but ingots gleaming darkly by the light of a cindered heart—for what art thine flesh before the mother’s touch of flame?”
- Dreams of the Steam Saint Anais, XXXIV, iii

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Gestalt: Steam & Cinder has strong pixel art, animation, and music that create an appealing steampunk aesthetic, with responsive combat and solid exploration rewards that most players find engaging and satisfying. However, opinions diverge sharply on the story, which some find convoluted and boring while others enjoy the world-building, and the overall difficulty is considered easy by most, which may disappoint those seeking a tougher challenge. Players generally recommend it to metroidvania fans despite these complaints, suggesting it's worth playing if the genre appeals to you.
Gestalt: Steam & Cinder looks far better than it plays. The pixel art, animation, music and overall visual style are genuinely good. The problem is that almost everything underneath feels like the developers copied the recognizable features of several genres without really understanding why those features work. The game calls itself a metroidvania, but exploration barely matters. There are very few places that make you think, “I need to remember this and come back later with a new ability.” Even when you do find optional paths or chests, the reward is often just another resource you can already get from regular enemies. The progression system has the same problem. Kill enemies, get a resource, spend it on upgrades like more HP, damage, stamina or energy. Why? Because RPGs have skill trees, apparently. These upgrades rarely create new ways to play; they mostly make numbers bigger. In a metroidvania, I expect exploration itself to give me meaningful tools, abilities and new interactions with the world. Enemy design was where I finally lost interest. One flying enemy damages you on contact and mostly turns into a boring routine of waiting for it to approach and hitting it at the right…1 found this helpful
Gestalt Steam & Cinder
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The gameplay was easy and intuitive. When you die or get hit, it's really your fault. I like that in a metroidvania. Good game.
A boring story, easy gameplay and boring bosses.
Gestalt is an amazing metroidvania, with just some minor flaws Here are all the great points about the game - Pixelart and animation are really well made, everything is clear and fluid - The exploration is fun and as you progress you get helpful tools to 100% the game - The bosses all look great and have distinct movesets - You rescue dogs as a sidequest Now the parts I didn't like, mostly minor stuff - The story is a bit too complex/convoluted, there is a lot of character and dialog, It gets hard to foolow - Some enemies are really annoying to fight - The game is a bit too easy Overall the game is great, totally worth playing if you like metroidvanias
A compelling action adventure experience combines fast paced combat, exploration, and role playing progression within a well developed steampunk-inspired setting. Movement feels responsive, and combat encounters maintain a satisfying rhythm built around timing, positioning, and effective use of abilities. Regular upgrades and new equipment provide a steady sense of advancement, making progression feel rewarding throughout the journey. World design encourages exploration through interconnected locations, hidden paths, side activities, and optional discoveries. Each region introduces new challenges and expands understanding of the setting, creating a consistent sense of momentum. Environmental variety helps maintain interest, while thoughtful level layouts support both exploration and combat without unnecessary backtracking. Character progression offers meaningful customization through skills, equipment, and combat enhancements. Enemy encounters remain engaging because different situations encourage adaptation rather than reliance on a single strategy. Boss battles serve as memorable milestones, requiring attention to attack patterns and effective use of available tools. Narrative…
A história é bem maçante, mas o jogo é divertido.
