Might & Magic X - Legacy

Sorry for being late, I actually liked it. That is apart from the UBISOFT launcher, online services and other xxx. Thanks for all the devs that worked on this title. P.S.: No, this isn't your AAAAAAAAAAA game for just 100€.

This game has a lot of issue. Character creation: linking race and class didn't work well as each of the 4 races needed 3 versions and their collection of skills didn't make much sense. For example why did 3 of the hybrid classes have access to air magic but none had dark, water, or primal magic? MM8 did this concept better as each race was more unique and had a better mix of skills. Combat: the turn based combat is fine, although repetitive, but the enemies teleporting around you is not. Also not being able to move when in melee range means the fights are often static. Another issue is the heavy use of status effect by enemies can cause problems, such as the only character who can remove paralysis being paralysed, stunned, or unable to use magic. Plot: it ranges from bland to insulting to the player's intelligence. The player should be performing the difficult tasks, not the writer's pet. Also shamelessly praising another writer's pet for being intelligent even though they didn't do anything is annoying. Finally the villain's plan does make any sense as it's literally just sitting around in a city. The heavy reliance on character from Heroes 6 also caused problems because…

MM3 was one of my first forays into grid-based dungeon crawlers. I played it when it was released and finished it several times back then. Just really enjoyed it. The theme burned into my synapses. I can still recall it anytime. I also enjoyed 4 and 5, combined into World of Xeen. That, too, is a timeless classic for me. MM6 went 3D with the environments and it lost quite a lot of it's charm. I still played it, but didn't quite enjoy it all that much. I never got into 7,8, or 9. I kept going with other titles like Lands of Lore and the various D&D dungeon crawlers. When MMX came it I was intrigued by the premise and the design. I didn't really expect all that much. But I was surprised to find even my low expectations not met at all. Coming off of Baldur's Gate IV, which isn't perfect either, but is extremely atmospheric and get's a lot of the mood and feeling right that made early dungeon crawlers enjoyable, MMX just feels completely flat. I bought this game ages ago. Back then I could not get into it at all, no matter how much I wanted. I was too impatient. Now that I'm older (but not necessarily wiser), I enjoyed the game. The area you explore has a lot of variety. The combat got bit boring over time, but I wasn't really playing the game for the combat as much.. Mostly for the exploration alone. If you enjoy grid based RPG's like Legend of Grimrock, I can recommend this one as well.

Might & Magic 10 is a M&M game in name only, it has absolutely none of the soul or charm of the series and is nothing but another lazy and uninspired game from Ubisoft. The only reason to buy this would be to get M&M 6: the Mandate of Heaven, which is a fantastic if dated game. Really if you want to scratch your M&M itch or are simply looking to play an older style RPG go buy 6, 7 or 8 on GoG for dirt cheap. They all work perfectly out of the box and you don't have to deal with that bloatware Ubisoft launcher.

After trying to give might and magic 6 the mandate of heaven a try, I was so disspointed. I vowed never to play any of these games. But recently I got this MMX legacy, and I'm surprised at it... I'm giving it a shot, and it seems to be alright. It'll never be Xeen, but I figure until I can get more ram and a better video card to play Veilguard, this will do quite nicely. It is what it is... as long as that it isn't what it isn't. I will jump the gun and say i'm a fan once again.
