Gun Metal

Game is pretty average. The seamless transition between being an on-foot mecha to flying around the air as a jet is actually pretty cool and the biggest gameplay point to appreciate about this game. The graphics and music feel very 2000's which was a nice nostalgia trip. On the otherhand the rest of the gameplay really doesn't offer up that much and even less if you can't get over the odd slippery camera controls. Physically turning requires you to move the reticle to the boundary of the screen, which is not something that has aged well and kinda just makes the game uncomfortable to play for the most part. Two other things. First point, this game is extremely short. A good handful of the 14 missions can be completed quicker than a smoke break at your 9-5, being only a few minutes long. A full first run of the game is only expected to be 2-3 hours though speedrunners have dropped that into less than an hour. Second point that kinda falls into the first, this game is cheap. Cheaper than a pack of smokes for your smoke break on that 9-5. We're talking full priced at $2.99 but the thing is frequently on sale for a whopping 50 cents. On one hand it's hard for me to say I recommend this…

One of the most memorable games of my childhood. Definitely recommended.

The aiming is very floaty, and required for turning so you can't aim and move around easily. Quite a few missions use very oppressive anti-air guns to prevent you zooming to the objective, but they kill you so fast and enemy's can knock you into their range by accident. The missile objectives changed how they work. In one you can shoot them down, but in the next you have to destroy them before they launch or you fail. It's not bad considering the price tho and it wont take too much time as well. Plenty of weapons you unlock are fun, and the missions where you can fly freely make it fun to zoom from crisis to crisis.

I have warm memories of this game because it came bundled with my FX 5900 GPU in 2003. This was my first 'high end' gpu. for a high school kid dropping about 500 euro's on a gpu anything that came with it was liquid gold. But despite the bias, it's a genuinely fun arcade shooter. It doesn't have much depth but it's the kind of game that's great for younger kids that just want to fly an awesome transformer-jet and blow up things without worrying the parents too much about realistic violence or gore. Great fast paced arcade, it's good at what it does. So I've checked 'received for free' but I did have tot buy a GPU for it two decades ago. I bought it on steam because I couldn't find the cd rom anymore. so both for free and bought.

A timeless classic third-person transformer shooter. It works great and still runs pretty well on a modern PC.
