Rogue Tactics

The game is fun. So consider it if it's on sale. But: While it looks polished, It's a complete and buggy mess. Events don't trigger like they are supposed to, or not at all. Even basic mechanics at times don't work as expected or described. This is not apparent in the first couple attempts, but as you progress and unlock stuff, a lot of it will be broken. And once in a there are bugs that will kill your run an hour in because the game locks you out of some functionality, like upgrading your Notebook.

Tactical combat is pretty fun and heavily inspired by the Heroes of Might and Magic series: Focus is on positioning and making good use of terrain and limited skills (max use per battle and cooldown). Unit diversity is pretty crazy and goofy: While you can easily spot tanks, support or summoners, there's also a ton of hybrids and unique units with their own playstyles. Three copies of the same unit can be merged into a stronger version which may or may not play out the same way. Just like in Heroes of Might and Magic, your commander doesn't directly take part into battles but can cast a single spell each turn, ranging from direct damage spells, to heals or terraforming. Between battles you have to pick rewards (spells, units, relics...) and then manage your coins. That part is kind of deep as well since you have a ton of options: Buying units, spells and relics, healing or fusing units or even expanding your active party or spell book. With limited coins, that part of the playloop is quiet impacting but it doesn't take long as almost all you need to know is on screen. This game kinda rules. Wish it had more replayability but can't argue with the price.
