Commander Bug Wars

Definitely recommended for fans of turn-based tactics and Advance Wars -style battles. Simple but well designed and fun. GoldenGod Games normally produces very bare bones titles, and many of the games feel very similar. For my money this one is the best of the bunch. The theme of terrans vs bugs works well. The game is VERY simple. You have troops, you recruit troops, you capture resources, you move and attack. No research trees. The plot is barely there and super generic. But if you are curious about this creator, this is the one to try.

Update: Support Team reached out via Discord and offered assistance. Their assistance resolved the issue and the game appears to be working now. I will leave this as a positive review and update once I have some game experience. The issue was that I had a game controller plugged in and this caused the game to not respond to keyboard inputs. Unplugging the controller and restarting the app resolved the issue. Disclaimer: I'm a Linux user, my experience might not be yours. Downloaded the Linux native game, launched it and the greeting message won't close. Game unplayable Downloaded the Windows version and ran with multiple Proton layers. Same problem. Downloaded it to a different storage drive and tried Windows and Linux version, same problem. Went to publishers discord and left message, previous user messaged their discord over a year ago and never heard back. I've requested a refund. Unfortunate as I was really looking forward to playing this game.

It's alright, pretty much a straightforward Advance Wars kind of game. I paid $4 for it and so far I think that's about what it's worth. Played a few missions so far, and it's kind of easy on the normal difficulty. Resources are barely a constraint at all. Might change later in the campaign, not sure. The first couple missions (excluding the tutorial) are defense missions, which I think was a poor decision since it ends up being a lot of passing turns and waiting for the map to tell you you're done - not the best introduction to the game, imo. EDIT: Switched to thumbs down. It was already on the border of neutral, and in hindsight the fact that I couldn't motivate myself to finish it tells me that I don't want to give it a thumbs up, at least until I get around to playing it again.

Cost's less than a bottle of water, and is arguably more fun...
