New Witch in Town

New Witch in Town is a game I have had my eye on for quite awhile. It's release date, from memory, kept being pushed for a fair amount of time and this usually says alot about how a game will turn out. Compared to many other games yet to be released this story had no presence on the COG forum, it had a demo and an illusive release date. That was all anyone knew about this I imagine, so when I finally got to read this - my impressions were from the demo and from the name and I think that this is the first and by far the biggest pitfall the game has. As I read through, I was curious as to when I would get to the story of magic and witches and maintained that curiosity up till the end, as it is never really about the magic and witches. The story is in actuality focused, whether intended by the author or not, on the new and old relationships the MC faces as they return back to the town they had spent their childhood in and it's forest. unfortunately, i don't really like this. i had this wishlisted before it even released and had my eye on it for a fair amount of time, very excited to play! so i was sad to buy this and not like it. the game feels like it punishes me for wanting to explore the world and talk to people. the options for dialogue are okay i guess, but a lot of them seem really shallow and don't change much. and some options seem formulaic for each interaction, in the sense that there's always options where you focus solely on certain objectives and it's Very Obvious which each dialogue is for. for example, in this game, you try to save the forest and the town. and there are always generic dialogue options that go to either extreme: "but what about saving the forest?" or "ehhh, who cares about the forest, what about the town?". and these options come at the cost of building your character's personality or their relationships with others. this game doesn't give you enough time to explore the world and get to know the characters and it's frustrating because things could really be interesting if they let you play around. instead, you have to focus on a singular objective if you want to get anything done a…

The romance options all feel like the same character. I hate that none of them are established characters, that I choose their gender, that they´re all around the same age etc... Yeaaaah.. Not worth it

I was initially very excited about playing this game, however it ended up being a disappointment. There's not much plot progression and it seems to be left at a point for a sequel - yet it fails to grab you enough to desire that sequel. There's a number of characters that can be friends/ROs, yet I struggled to know who was who and there is no "character index" to check who I'm actually talking to. This makes it difficult to get attached to most of the characters. There's a few mysteries in the game, some of which are abruptly solved by overhearing an argument in the epilogue. Other mysteries remain unsolved, and I'm unsure how much of that is due to my choices or due to the open end for a potential sequel. I'd hoped for more from the familiar, but I felt like the bond was more "feed the cat that can teleport" and less magical friend. Overall, I went into this thinking I would enjoy it, but it seemed more of a chore with no real outcome.

Oh Boy, New Witch In Town. Where do i start. At 750,000 words HOLY CRAP does this story just DRAG ON! While i am giving it a Thumbs Down, Its not a bad story its just....Dull? YOUR A WITCH (or a Druid i suppose if your male), that just moved into the town of SilverTree, where your Grandmother sent you for unknown reasons. Most of takes place over the course of 1 week with alot of Character interaction. The main "plot" seems to center around Environmentalism, The Town of SilverTree at the time of your arrival just announced they are going to get a development project. But your magic is tied to the nearby forest, which will be cleared by said development project. So one of your Goals it trying to stop the developments, but at the same time its kinda a subplot cus the majority of time is hanging out with like 7 characters if you choose too do so. While you do play as Witch, their is VERY LITTLE opportunity to actually use said magic. It must have come up like 6 times over the course of the story, more so if you include Looking to see if magic is involved with something. The Epilogue most go on for like 20 or 30 minutes going though EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.

I feel awful not liking it since I had it on my wishlist for so long but I can't bring myself to recommend this. The story presents a mystery, but it doesn't let you actually solve the mystery AND befriend the plethora of characters the author puts in front of you. There's also a few features that add nothing to the story- such as the familiar who doesn't add anything other than simply just....Being there. The author clearly had a lot that they Wanted to do, they just didn't settle on How they were going to do so and in the end the story suffered greatly from it.
