Grand Prix Story

I LOVE Kairosoft games, this one is just boring. All you do is level up drivers and mechanics and then watch your cars race. The points needed for leveling up don't accumulate very fast, so you basically just do the same thing over and over again until you have enough points to level up and research new items, then do it all over again. No fun design element, no real engagement of any kind. Super, super grindy and I can tell it's going to take forever to get all the achievements. Not a fan of this one at all.

One of the easier Kairosoft games to 100%, Grand Prix Story is the 3rd English release in their long gameography. It has really good ideas and is arguably still quite a unique game in their catalogue. However, there are some questionable design choices, such as: 1. Lack of endgame content. 2. How parts are unlocked. Apparently, you can unlock a supercharger by maxing out the Chimp Labs sponsorship, but on most people's first playthrough, they won't even unlock it. The same goes for 4WD and brakes. 3. The cost to upgrade parts. E-rank parts shouldn't cost as much as they do to upgrade, which is kind of ridiculous. I guess this also applies to upgrading employees; in fact, after leveling them up to level 2 or 3, I didn't really level them up past that. 4. Inaccessible racetracks. You can't even single race on some of the tracks. After moving past the Formula Asia league, you won't ever be able to replay the Malaysia GP, Turkey GP, or China GP in the same save file again. Maybe they fixed these issues in the free-to-play, mobile-only sequel, but this game still lacks some crucial legs that would turn it from great to a masterpiece. i have quite a few packs of kairosoft games and they are all good. this is a better ratio than bethesda, ubisoft, EA or any other three studios together as they all have buggy or broken games (or the mega stupid launchers). no DLC, or other cancerous shenanigans oh so many developers turn to, just buy a game and get the game, not bits of one. i paid just over a fiver for a pack of 4 full games and even though there are a couple i have no interest in and another couple i don't particularly like personally, at no point have i even considered a refund or a downvote for any of them. an easy upvote
