Equinox: Homecoming appeals strongly to horse game enthusiasts who praise the riding mechanics, exploration, beautiful scenery, and engaging mystery storyline, with plenty of activities like foraging and side quests to keep players busy. However, critics point out repetitive quest design that involves excessive back-and-forth travel, an incomplete story with missing cinematics, ongoing bugs, and microtransactions, with some feeling the game isn't ready for its current release status.

I’m really enjoying Equinox Homecoming. The horse riding is the highlight (as you would expect), with loads of trails to explore, scenic rides to enjoy and races to take on. There’s always something to keep you busy, too. Between foraging, weekly quests, daily deliveries and side quests, there’s plenty to do even after you’ve finished the main story. And the story itself is so engaging—it keeps you eager to start the next quest and find out what’s really happening in Alderwood. A lovely game to get lost in, especially if you enjoy horses, exploring and having plenty to do at your own pace.

I grew up playing Barbie Horse Adventures on XBOX as a kid - and anyone else who played that game would agree with me that this game absolutely satiates that childhood desire for a horse game. Its just everything we love about horses and riding and gaming together. The murder mystery was just the cherry on top. It added darkness, something that horse games desperately need to break the monotony of "good timey horse game" by adding an investigative story line. The graphics and mechanics are wonderful. Im so excited to see what more they end up adding in future patches!

You ride from one area to the other, then right back again, and the map is large. You essentially have to stay on the trails as well, or you'll just be blocked by trees, etc. MISSIONS: You can do quests, which literally just have you run from one point of the map to the other, then allllllllll the way back again, and repeat. STORY: It's not as good as people say it is. It's juvenile for being a mystery theme. At first I thought the story was pretty damn good, but then I realized I just felt that way because of how bad everything else is. They still don't even have images or cinematics for multiple storylines...just a grey screen. GAMEPLAY: What gameplay? Spend 20 minutes riding one way just to spend another 20 riding back. You just repeat this over and over. They paid for motion capture of horses, but only for the cinematics of grooming and feeding the horse. The horses themselves look like they are dying from a horrible sickness. Maybe tie that into the storyline and give something worth the time. The horse control/movement is AWFUL. What in the actual hell is that LMAO Spend the money on motion cap but completely RUIN every aspect of the thing you paid for...I'm impressed by …

terrible game and awful dev team. this game is not even finished so why is it even out of early access? from the story to the optimization, this game is nowhere near done. wish i could refund but their support team sucks!

As an old fan of Starstable seasons, Equinox is what Starstable online should've been, but with better graphics. It doesn't have much storywise yet, but that doesn't even matter to me. In a world where everyone's rushing, 40 hours in and I'm still enjoying simply walking around the peaceful BEAUTIFUL scenery. And gathering stuff. 10/10, can't wait to see what it will be in a few years!

I have been a little obsessed with this and really enjoying it! The story is unique. Unfortunately, it's done for the moment so I cannot do more story quests until they add more, but I can at least do side quests! It can get a little grindy because it's a lot of ride here, ride there, but I play a lot of Legend of Khiimori, so I am used to it. I am excited to see what they add. It's nice too being able to "turn off all players" if you prefer to play alone. I play on PC with Ultra graphics and use a controller for comfort. Some cons I would mention though: it isn't finished, there are bugs, and I despise games that hide things behind real-life purchases. It's probably more fun with friends too. Despite those cons, I still enjoy it.
