✦ AI summary

Hostile Lands is a roguelite that captures the frenetic energy of Nuclear Throne with permanent progression, featuring engaging combat, snappy movement, and escalating difficulty that keeps runs fresh. Players consistently praise the fun weapons, challenging but fair difficulty scaling, and responsive gameplay, though some note occasional hitbox issues with environmental hazards and weapon balance inconsistencies. The game is well-regarded as a worthwhile purchase at its low price point, with players particularly appreciating the developer's responsiveness to feedback.

It's criminal how a game this good could have so few people know of it. In a nutshell, Hostile Lands is Nuclear Throne if it were a roguelite, that is, permanent meta-progression that can be unlocked by collecting different in-game currencies. Fortunately, the differences don't stop there as every character can dodge roll and every weapon can melee. You can take critter companions along to aid you on your run. And every successful run bumps up the hostility or difficulty spike for the next run. There aren't mutations, but the weapons and unique character abilities are fun and impactful enough to where having them might be overkill. The difficulty in Hostile Lands (at least the base difficulty as I haven't played on Hostility 1 and higher yet) is challenging but fair. Every hit, every death feels like my own fault and not that of the RNG, which is the hallmark of any great roguelike/lite game. And for what it's worth, I cleared my first run in the time it took to finally beat Big Dog. I don't have any complaints or criticism. Everything looks and feels polished and the gameplay is super fun. And despite the obligatory comparison to Nuclear Throne, Hostile Lands carves out it's o…

Hostile Lands is a good game that shines the more you play it. I enjoyed the difficulty of the enemies at the higher hostility levels a lot. The guns are fun to use and the movement feels pretty good. Very snappy. Though some guns shine a lot more than others so I wish the weapon types were a little more balanced. I suppose that could just be play type preference though. While more levels, guns, alternate paths, music, etc. would be nice, the game is very good as it is now. Especially for being priced less than $10 dollars (8 at time of review).

I don't need to play this game a whole lot of time to review it. This game is freakin' awesome. Punchy. Intelligent. These guys are going places. Kudos. Edit: One thing I'd add is that if you pick up the same weapon just just add ammo to the one you're holding. Unless I haven't yet seen some mechanic which makes this not possible. Thanks devs!

I did not play that far yet but i had to recommend the game only for how fast the devs fixed my specific issue with Ultrawide. Also the game feels like Nuclear Throne on steroid! i'll update the review in the future the more i play!
