In reviewing this title, I'd first like to say that I haven't played "Ys X: Nordics," the base game, but I began my adventure with "Ys X: Proud Nordics," the extended version. It's an action game focused primarily on exploration and the story it tells, and I think it's good. The overall game is more of a simple game where you can sit back and relax, as it's not overly difficult or challenging, at least in my opinion. The combat system itself is rather simple but well-designed. We have two characters who fight together and combine their attacks into combos. There are a variety of spells to choose from, so everyone will find something they like. The game also offers character upgrades, allowing you to build any skill tree, both passive and active. The game runs very stable and has no major issues or bugs, at least in this version. The game itself is also quite long, as it took me 98.6 hours to complete, which is quite a lot for a game. I think the game is good, and I think the time I spent playing it was very good, and it was enjoyable to play. My rating is 9 / 10

It's fine if you want another Ys game. Gameplay is already dead since celceta. This game is better with finally the long awaited removal of flash move and flash guard, and the pointless party system, but still doesn't even come close to the boss design (with no crutches allowed) of napishtim, oath in felghana and origin (and even SEVEN for some bosses). The last reason to play ys games, the music, feels like a noticeable step down. The actual tracks that are clearly jindo are still great, singa is still very mid, but it feels like the vast majority are cheap, and many are reused for no reason. The "proud nordics" dlc area probably has the best OST, probably because most is jindo. So gameplay still dead despite some steps forward, music a step down despite barely hanging on, overall I'm ok that I played it just because I'm loyal to the series, but in a vacuum, this game would've felt like a waste of time. Oh, also, obviously, the story is shonen jrpg "power of friendship" slop. Slightly better because there isn't an entire party of irrelevant people that pretend to be "main characters", just one char except Adol, but still not good enough to be a story worth experiencing.

My Third YS game after start with number 8. Easily my favorite to date with gameplay and combat. Story was amazing also and is up there with 8 as some of my favorite writing in a JRPG.

I would say this is a good game. Though the combat and progression system is not the best but a good foundation. For combat, I dont have problem with the duo system and the overhaul combat design away from Ys 8 and 9. But because chaos of attacks from mob are not as chaotic as ys 8 and 9, the combat flow is a bit slower and not clicking buttons (mashing) that much as compared to ys 8 and 9. The perfect block window is generous and holding it will automatically blocking attack but the revenge meter will gain less. Even with the evade system, you will hold it to avoid the blue color attacks. This design is fun but at the cost of the pacing and not as chaotic as previous ys, as the mob enemies are not aggresive enough and the attacks are quite slow for the combo which easily can be blocked. Still it is fun. Though this combat design only feel like being pushed/challenged only by a few bosses, first 2 bosses (not familliar with the button scheme yet) and 2 optional bosses (late game) and also the final main boss. Thats the only time I feel challenging and the others are a bit mindless. The thing I dont like is the button scheme during combat. It is not good when you want to block (R2) …
