Stygian: Outer Gods

garbage combat. i cant stomach a survival horror that cant figure out how combat with long ghost frames that make blocks not work and enemys with hyper armor being unfair and totally jank ruins the game. its not a stealth focused game you dont hide in lockers and back stab enemys. you are expected to fight and they cant even get that part right.

I can't even play it. It just crashes on the loading screen when I try to start a game.

Well, I'm revising this....Since there's not a "meh" vote, in all fairness I need to reluctantly vote it up. I had to switch to "easy mode" to at least try to get something for my money. Got past the first instance and am about to start the second. Feel a bit inadequate as usually I play all my games on default difficulty. This one is not one of them...in fact, first one in years I had to dumb down. Play feels a bit more balanced and now I feel I can explore what it has to offer. So, easy mode feels like normal mode and normal mode feels like hard mode....Hard mode is probably "Don't even bother" mode. Will potentially update if this game really pulls me in. Lots of reading, lots of nonsensical babble....so we'll see. *update* So almost 20 hours later after rage quiting due to imbalanced difficulty at "normal" settings...scaled down difficulty was a little too easy but that's ok. It was engaging none the less. It is not complete and the ending was a little "Wait, what?!" Lot's of notes to read all over the place, puzzles weren't very hard but still enjoyable. Pros- -engaging story -engaging world -atmosphere is great -exploration is also great -consistent sense of progression Cons- -story can be a bit convoluted in its writing -melee combat is frustrating at worst, boring at best (although I like that it is slower and more deliberate, it's just not executed well) -would like to see a bit more of the cosmic side of Lovecraftian horror Ultimately really enjoying Stygian Outer Gods. It makes you want to check every corner and fear that you may have missed something of value or importance. While the melee combat is a bit lacking (gunplay is fine), the overall world and atmosphere make up for it. Looking forward to the final and full release.

Plays like a mix between 2018's Call of Cthulhu and Resident Evil 8 with the graphics of the former and the combat of the latter. A lot of fun, with new dynamics introduced.

An absolute must-play for any Lovecraft fan.
