Playing as Cleopatra in a historical romance Visual Novel, dealing with political intrigue, Rome, betrayal and different romance options such as Caesar, Mark Antony and Octavian sounds like a concept that has a LOT of potential for me. [b] First of all: The AI usage [/b] I want to make something very clear here: I learned about the use of generative AI shortly after starting the game BUT It is disclosed on the Steam page, so the fact that AI was used itself is NOT the reason for my negative review, I could’ve just read properly in the beginning. If I would’ve read this before, I would have probably declined it. My biggest problem is the quality of the result. The artwork often looks extremely cheap and unfinished to me. Most characters and scenes have that very obvious AI-generated appearance where details, proportions and expressions simply do not feel consistent or deliberately designed. I never knew how many extraordinarily handsome men Cleopatra had to choose from. If the cast of [i]Crown of the Nile: Cleopatra's Choice[/i] is anything to go by, then I have a newfound admiration for her ability to reel them in. [h1]Story[/h1] We begin right at the climax of Cleopatra's fateful end, unable to prevent her demise.. only to switch, temporarily, into modern day western world where the player character is taking part in a work-based group chat. Initially, this feels like a confusing start, but it soon makes sense as our ancient-Egypt-obsessed heroine is encouraged to take a holiday in the land of her dreams, and as a result of a convenient bit of isekai wish fulfilment, the next time she wakes, she finds herself quite literally the embodiment of a young Cleopatra, joint Pharaoh of historical Egypt. She shares rule with her younger brother, 13 year old Ptolemy XIII, a naïve child whose mind is continuously poisoned by the chief eunuch Pothinus, the conniving Regent who constantly manoeuvres to undermine her in favour of the young boy whom he can control and ultimately use to claim dominion over the country for himself.
