A Night On The Farm

A Night on the Farm is your run of the mill monster horror game which aspires to be something greater. It's a simple, average, but fun game. You follow a linear item progression while being silently stalked by a monster looming over you. Is the monster design unique? Yes. It's the first time I've seen the urban legend of the Mothman portrayed as a purely horror entity and treated as such. Sadly, the game has a lot of shortcomings. The horror isn't all that good. Scares are few and far between, which isn't bad in and of itself, but the lack of tension doesn't fill that gap, leaving you mostly bored. Thankfully, the game only lasts around 60 minutes, so it doesn't overstay its welcome. Where the game saves itself a bit is the ending. The deeper meaning surrounding the torture of an entity for research and the slight, even though somewhat shoehorned in, ARG elements create an interesting conclusion. The game leaves the player with a series of open ended questions such as whether compassion is a weakness, a strength, or merely a tool, leaving you to come to your own conclusions. Combined with the ominous message that "your answers have been recorded," it elevates what would otherwis…

"A Night on the Farm" is a short 'n' sweet throwback at classic 90s mystery/horror with PS1 era aesthetics. It wastes absolutely no time, progression is inevitable and rewarding. The story and atmosphere are no doubt inspired by the 2002 film [REDACTED] with some old school [REDACTED] Seasons 1-4 vibes thrown into the mix. I am absolutely fascinated with titles like these. Given a bigger budget I could see "ANotF" being remade with a more fleshed out story, perhaps some confrontations (non-combat), set in a slightly more expanded world. For the 5 dollars asking price, I got a good 2 hours out of this with 100% achievement completion, but I intend to uncover all possible endings. Recommended, especially for a quick Halloween playthrough!

Fantastic well made game. It is a very fun speed run too. I highly recommend speed running this game.

I'm not gonna complain about a small game too much. For the price, it was fun and the art style was on point (I love retro-looking games). The story was meh, and I couldn't finish the game because the last part makes you stumble around in complete darkness trying to guess the way forward. I hate when games do that, and they do it A LOT. Can we stop? Complete darkness isn't scary—it just inhibits my ability to play and adds to frustration.
