About A Robot Named Fight!

A Robot Named Fight is a Metroidvania roguelike focused on exploration and item collection. Take on the role of a lone robot tasked with stopping the entity known as the Megabeast. Millennia of peace have passed since the mechanical gods ascended and left the lower order robots to cultivate the world. • Prove your worth with true permadeath.
  • Take on over 60 menacing enemies solo or with a friend via local co-op.

✦ AI summary

Players praise this roguelike's excellent Super Metroid-inspired controls and movement, addictive "just one more run" gameplay loop, and variety of weapons and builds that encourage replayability and experimentation. However, some criticize the slow pacing, randomly generated maps that can feel repetitive and atmospheric, and tedious progression that relies on shooting every wall to find secrets, occasionally resulting in dead-end passages.

Starts fun but gets super repetitive after a few deaths. I wish there was a way to play a full run through without resetting when you die.

In addition to all the issues listed under the Negative Reviews, which are all accurate, here we my own personal gripes: - The lack of ability to keybind the movement skills was extremely clunky. When I got the slide, I would have much rather had the ability to bind it to shift and use it constantly. Instead it was bound by the dev to S+K, but it only works if you hit both keys at the exact same time. So that when I was trying to dash through gaps, I just ended up constantly ducking. It was supremely annoying. - Not only are the breakable walls annoying, due to them being 3-pixels tall and whatnot, but for incomprehensible reasons, they respawn almost immediately!! Busting through to different areas becomes its own stupid minigame, where you try to have all 3 blocks blown up at the same time before they respawn. Then, not only do enemies respawn when you go back to the same area, but all the passages you have opened by destroying blocks get closed again and have to be re-opened. Why??? - The enemies are extremely annoying when combined with your limited clunky mobility, but I think it has to do with their pathing/homing algorithm. I think they are able to read your key-presses, so…

Super Metroid with items and stats like Dead Cells

Controls and movement feel amazingly similar to Super Metroid. However, the rather slow gameplay and randomized map design is rather boring and lacks the needed atmosphere. It takes some time to get to the more exciting and interesting sections with each restart. That's a problem when repeated runs are needed to understand how everything works and what various collectible items do. Furthermore, it mainly relies on finding secret wall and platform passages to progress. Have fun shooting at everything constantly just to see if a path opens up. Even then, the random map generator can occasionally seemingly create levels where there's no more ways to go and a secret path just opens to a solid dead end wall.
