A Tale of Paper: Refolded

I picked up this little gem on sale for around $3. Bargain of the century ! Amazing game, a complete mystery at purchase. Trailer looked cool and at 90% off, why not take a chance. And I am glad I did. The story follows an origami figure that can fold into other creatures, which gives certain powers to overcome certain obstacles. Premise is simple though genius and charming. The game is a linear platform but not 2D, you can move to about in all directions though limited. Graphics are beautiful and sound track is fantastic. The game rolls along at a nice pace, some puzzles were hard enough to be frustrating but not impossible to solve. The end boss fight was so much fun and the achievement "Pure Skill" to kill the end boss without dying was so satisfying to pop. Overall a very fun and wholesome experience. Kid friendly, though maybe played with an adult as the skill level may be too much without some parental guidance. Achievement Hunters. Most achievements are easy with a few tricky ones. But if you persevere you shouldn't have a problem at all. Difficulty 4/10, maybe....?

This was an enjoyable game, but I feel like it's an 'on sale' game for sure. At the current price of $20 it feels a bit .. just lacking. The music is good, though not many tracks, but it sets the tone very well and is very gentle. The art and design is pretty decent, I think I only fell once because I was running and couldn't quite tell where the little pin lets were landing, but otherwise navigation was painless and obvious. The puzzles where very easy except for one where I have no clue about still involving colored pipes. The transformations were okay, but I feel the orders of play should have been reversed. I'd have preferred getting the bird first as the frog was such a nice upgrade and going to the bird second felt really annoying. The big part that got me was the story. I was making guesses throughout, and for a good chunk of things I was right.. but I would have liked more hints, more information about it. The final one with the flute was completely not expected, though. I truly thought we were in the same situation as the other two and would have loved more hints on that one. And finally, a minor annoyance: Why are there credits after every single one? I kept thinkin…

Well, the game was alright. For what seems to be the first project by these people, it’s pretty well made. Ran well on my devices, no glitches in the base game, it was pretty fun. However, it is very short. I did get it on sale for $2, but I would not call it worth $20 for about 3-4 hours of gameplay max. On top of that the boss in the “Melody” part of the game is incredibly janky, and once I figured out what I was supposed to do, the game would constantly stop and get me stuck in the second phase forever. I tried multiple fixes and it ended up pissing me off enough to return it, despite the base game being pretty fun. Can’t say I would 100% recommend this game. Maybe a couple updates down the line could change my mind.

A Tale of Paper pleasantly surprised me. The game stands out with its beautiful, hand-drawn art style and lovingly designed environments. The idea of transforming into different paper shapes and using their unique abilities makes the gameplay varied and keeps the puzzles interesting. I especially enjoyed the calm, emotional atmosphere and the creative world design. The game is relatively short, but that actually makes it a charming experience that you can easily play through in one sitting. If you enjoy creative platformers with puzzles, a unique atmosphere, and a lot of charm, I can definitely recommend A Tale of Paper. It’s a small but very enjoyable gaming experience!

A very cute, short adventure with a nice story and mechanics. I loved the whole origami concept and how the different abilities worked. During the game you learn 4 abilities that you can play and solve puzzles. On the part that you begin again with no abilities I would like the new 4 abilities to be completely different than the former ones. Unfortunately I played with keyboard and during the last boss I had a difficult time to coordinate the movement. It'd be nice if dualsense was supported. Other than these notes, I found it really beautiful and the story touching and I would recommend it if you're looking for something nice to spend the afternoon since it is around 3 hours.

even on low graphics and lower resolution it runs like a pig. Despite having PS icons due to releasing on PS5 there's no settings option to show those icons. Extremely slow between scenes etc... Would not recommend.
