Remembering the Maxis release of A-Train back in the day I jumped on this as soon a my finances allowed me. I loved how in that game the rail design lead into business management and urban planning. It was complex for a 11 year old. Watching the system crunch my decisions invoke the best of what city builders can be. While there might be more beautiful City / Transport builders around this scratches an itch like no other. It has to be Japanese design and business sense that appeal to me. I've only put 5 hours into it and between this, Cities Skylines, Transport Fever 2 I keep coming back to A-Train. Negatives are thin as of right now, the music is repetitive and dry. I just Spotify a Simcity playlist and have at it. If you're willing to pay you will have yourself a quality game that's an evergreen title to keep going back to.2 found this helpful
Amazing game... But require some serious commitment to understand it properly. I have been a long fan of the series but rediscovered it only recently. This feel like the right continuation of the A3 and A4. Just know that the "tutorial" last about 12-16 hour. But this is the most clear and clean explanation I've seen on how to play A-Train. So after going thru it. You'll definitively be ready to play any A-Train game!!!2 found this helpful
A day in the island starts at 5:50 in the morning, as the first passenger train leaves westward from her depot at the north end of the single-tracked island loop. 10 minutes later, she reverses at the first station, with about 100 people onboard, heading eastward. At the same time, the second train leaves her depot at the south end of the loop, and heads westward. A single run around the island takes precisely 3 hours and 9 minutes, and for the next 18 hours and 54 minutes, both trains will complete exactly 6 loops and deadhead back to their depots at around 1 AM. Along the eastern portion of the loop lies an additional shuttle line that act as the express service for the more developed part of the island. As the loop train stops at the biggest station in the island, the express train on the other side of the platform would effortlessly match the arrival, enabling a smooth transfer every time. This will happen every 1 hour and 34 minutes, and after the last transfer connection, the express train goes to sleep at the next station. The night falls on the island, but the transport network must not sleep, as it is not just the people that needs moving. Passenger rail drives demand f…1 found this helpful
Maybe the first city-builder I've been truly addicted to since childhood. A-Train starts off as a deceptively simple transportation management sim, that slowly devolves into simulatory madness. This isn't just a game about trains, cars and operating schedules, it's an alternate-universe Simcity which *starts* with trains and cars, and ends with zoning, stock markets, residential/industrial/commerical building and zoning, stock markets, and going public. It's crazy. I've never played anything like it before. The tutorials take forever to get through, but that's kinda necessary given how deep it all goes. Also you can customize the soundtrack playlist in-game, which is awesome. It's no Jerry Martin, but it maintains a pleasant, cosy tone. The day/night cycle, weather, seasons, and era-appropriate theming also go a long way to preventing things from feeling too samey. I love this game. I don't have train autism, I don't really care about trains, but the way that all your transportation networks is a marvel to watch. Unfortunately it's incredibly expensive and I can't recommend it unless it goes on deep sale.
