About Adventure Land - The Code MMORPG

There are no quests, no guides you have to strictly follow to the letter. No objectives either. You can do anything you want. Even farming the lowest monster will yield satisfactory results! You can trade, gamble in tavern, party with friends, pvp solo with your rouge or go after rare loots!
Adventure Land wasn't originally a Code based game, during early development, it ended up a bit like a Clicker MMORPG, simple but fun. Then came Code, to let machines do the clicking! So it's not something extremely complex no one can understand, it's just basic automation!
Mage, Warrior, Rogue, Ranger, Priest and Merchant. All with different, easy to understand, but unique skills. There are no skill trees or the need to pick attributes, it's all automatic to keep things simple. Items provide some depth, and Code adds some variation to the mix.
There's a lot to work on. Daily Events, Paladin Class, Pets, Guilds (or Familias, as they will be small), New Zones, New Items, New Skills. All features are shaped and vetted by the playerbase.

It's a neat premise, and I do like it for the fact that it helped me learn JS a bit, which is a language I haven't messed with (though I know many others). However, the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe it's just not my style, but I don't think that's it. I play idle games, and enjoy them usually. And this is essentially an idle game, since you're using code to control your character automatically. But I don't like this game's progression for a few reasons. 1. Way too grindy from the getgo. I don't have the kind of weeks this game would require. Your character will be extremely weak for a very long time until you manage to get lucky enough to get the right items. You can't buy anything but the weakest items in this game, so everything has to be found, which isn't bad on its own, except that all the players are camping the same mobs, which means high-level players are in the newbie areas constantly spamming all the monsters to death from a huge range and with 5 simultaneous targets, while you're limited to walking extremely slowly and attacking them one at a time, meaning you don't get ANY. 2. No real progression. There are no skills in the traditional sen…

The concept is interesting, and building a bot with code is genuinely fun. The game lacks a clear progression path though. It also lacks meaningful skills. Your characters typically have only one or two abilities they use occasionally, so 99.5% of the time you're just basic attacking. The grind is also pretty insane. Getting any substantial upgrade takes days or even weeks.

THIS GAME WILL NOT HOLD YOUR HAND ON LEARNING PROGRAMMING. I mostly knew python, and very little Javascript. But with my background I have been able to slowly piece together something that kind of works, and it's very fun getting something working. But do not get this game expecting it to be easy to learn, it won't be. But very rewarding!!!

Wish it was getting more development. The foundation is good, but content is lacking. The game went open source but no idea how that impacts the steam version.
