I'll give credit for trying to add its own element to the MV genre. Unfortunately, that's where the credit stops. The idea. !!! The Idea That Killed The Game !!! The unique form-swapping attribute that is the main stay of the game really falls over due to 3 main issues: 1- Its demanding nature on the mind and hand/eye coordination, both, in the heat of battle, or just during some simple platforming. It has the kind of demand on coordination that just isn't natural when playing a MV, even with a new mechanic. 2- The sharp difficulty curve once you gain the second form. Players want their hands to be trained over time to do the difficult tasks expected of them throughout a game, as a result of the key mechanic. But as a result of that very mechanic, unfortunately, I felt myself subconciously trying to focus either on which finger was on which button on the controller and which form I wanted to be on the screen. That made the rest of the aspects of the game an ugly blur when it should have been as enjoyable as the rest of the design suggests. 3- The innability to quickly use the heal skill you only get to use on the light form, replaced with a speed boost on the dark form instead…

Clunkey at best and frustrating at worst. Has potential but there's too many "why the f*** it's like this" things. From awkward controls to the whole switching thing of the main character between and ending up on a map that looks the same. Shame, first one was actually good and I was hoping this one would build on that but it went the other way and overbuild on everything that was good and made it worse

I've been looking forward to Aggelos 2 ever since it was announced, even though I thought a sequel shouldn't happen, since the first one had a perfect, legend-worthy sentimental ending. However, I wasn’t bothered that they developed a sequel; instead, I was excited to step into another great example of a Metroidvania. While it met most of my expectations, a lot of things also left a sour taste in my mouth and reminded me once again that I shouldn’t buy a game as soon as it's out. The game pretty much plays and looks like the first one, except you obtain wings at the beginning rather than later in the game. It also gives you a ranged projectile attack, which you will rely on more than the sword this time. The transition between demon and angel form is also interesting, and they both have their dedicated skills and attack forms that are useful in their own way. The map is also doubled in size, which raises a huge problem that I will get to later. The currency is actually capped unless you find shells that increase it, which is quite a strange choice but makes sense once you play the game. The bosses and level design are alright, and the soundtrack is great as expected. However…

[h1][b]5.5/10[/b][/h1] Would have easily been a 9/10 if it had more difficulty options and more health restoring options. I'd like to play something like this when my attention is split or when I'm tired or when I'm slightly inebriated or something. It's at times a bit too "soulslike" for being a happy-looking Metroidvania. Those times will stop your progress and stop your fun. Such a shame that this one rookie game dev mistake pretty much ruins what could have been a masterpiece. Pretty decent, but with some big annoyances that nearly put me at a thumbs down. The game desperately needs a way to get hints and find missing items toward the end of the game; the map is huge and it's hard to know what you've missed or even see doors that still need to be explored. Still, overall a good game.

This is a pretty great metroidvania generally. Rebindable buttons, 2 massive maps, and sold gameplay all around. I played through this on hard mode and clocked in at over 13 hours getting about 99% of the items. This does lead to me one issue is that the game could really use some sort of mechanic to help the player track down missing things at the end of the game or post credits. There are 100 eggs to collect that unlock stuff and I only managed to get 99 of them with complete map coverage. There is no way I could ever really find 1 missing thing over 2 massive maps to retrace. The only other issue with this game is that since there is literally no penalty to death other than being sent back to your last checkpoint, you will often find suicide is the best means to fast travel given the size of the space and the frequency of checkpoints. There really should be a warp back to last checkpoint from the menu. That being said, the map design itself is actually really great. Very open ended once it gets rolling and neat pathing that requires shifting between the 2 maps to reach certain spots much like A Link to the Past.
